William Wood's 1634 book "New Englands Prospect" gives an account of animals, plants & landscapes he found in the area. He wrote the "Rabbets be much like ours in England," & these "harmelesse creatures are glad to shelter themselves from the harmefull Foxes, in hollow trees."
