Officers were dispatched at 2 a.m. Thursday to the 1500 block of Benjamin Parkway on a report of a person threatening suicide. Upon their arrival, officers heard a firearm discharge and then forced entry into a residence and located two people with serious injuries. Both were taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. Earlier today, Dolores Ricks died of her injuries. There is no threat to the public and investigators are not seeking any additional suspects. Details of this ongoing investigation are not immediately available for public release. This is the cityโ€™s 14th homicide of 2026.

GPD officers, Greensboro Fire, and Guilford County EMS responded just before 9:30 p.m. to a report of a shooting in the 3500 block of Lynhaven Drive and located two people with apparent gunshot wounds. Lifesaving efforts were initiated and one person was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. The other individual, later identified as Malachi Holmes, 16, did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. This is an active homicide investigation. Additional information, such as what led to the shooting, is not immediately available for release to the public. An update will be issued at a later time. This is the cityโ€™s 13th homicide of 2026. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 336-373-1000.

GPD officers, Greensboro Fire, and Guilford County EMS responded at approximately 11:28 a.m. (June 9) to a shooting call at the intersection of Ross Avenue and Pearson Street. First responders found Jayden Jaquez Person unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Life-saving efforts were initiated; however, Person died of his injuries at the scene. His next of kin have been notified. Another individual who was injured in the shooting was transported to a local hospital for treatment. This is an active investigation. Additional information, including details about what may have led to the shooting, are not immediately available for public release. This is the cityโ€™s 12 homicide of 2026. โš Amber Alert Issuedโš  GREENSBORO, NC (June 9, 2026) โ€“ On June 8 at approximately 6:45 pm, Greensboro Police responded to the 3600 block of Belmont Street in reference to a missing juvenile identified as Kamora Thomas. She was last seen on June 8 around 4:43 pm. Kamora Thomas is described as an 11-year-old black female approximately 5โ€™06โ€ to 5โ€™08โ€ tall, weighing 190 pounds, with a black and green ponytail braid and brown eyes. Last seen wearing a white graphic tee, pink pajama pants, and black slippers with jewels on them. Kamora Thomas was abducted by an unknown black female who was operating an orange-colored Jeep Wrangler bearing a Georgia license tag of ETL069. Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is asked to call the Greensboro Police Department at 336-373-2287.

On May 27, 2026, officers responded to a report from the Guilford County Veterans Memorial Board regarding stolen plaques and bronze lettering from the memorial at 3905 Nathanael Greene Drive. A second incident was reported on May 29 by City of Greensboro Parks and Recreation staff, involving additional plaques taken from the same location. Surveillance images captured in Country Park were circulated during the investigation. On June 4, Greensboro Police submitted the images to Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers to request public assistance in identifying a man seen in the images. Later that evening, a citizen identified the suspect, leading officers to Roger Lee Brown Jr. of Greensboro. Brown was taken into custody and charged with felony larceny (NCGS 14-71), possession of stolen property (NCGS 14-71.1), and unrelated narcotics offenses. He was taken to the Guilford County Jail, where he remains in custody. Earlier today, investigators recovered many of the stolen plaques from a local scrap metal business that cooperated with the investigation. The investigation remains ongoing.
