As 2021 draws to a close, we’ve been reflecting on some of the amazing achievements of the community (in no particular order) — you can read the full piece here: nanoporetech.com/about-us/ne…, or digest the thread below. Wishing you all a happy 2022 [1/23]
Deep learning-based real-time detection of novel pathogens during sequencing biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… // 50 cycles of @illumina sequencing or 0.5 seconds of Oxford @nanopore sequencing
with the ability to get more and more signal reads of the same bit of DNA over and over, while real time basecalling and even polishing it out, you can eject when your read has the Q score you want...
Yep, with that, you win.

Oxford @nanopore on the long reads front has pretty much obliterated the centralised CAPEX model with the MinION and importantly the $100-200 per run/experiment that is the Flongle.
Huge break through today, we have @nanopore MinION adaptive sampling running on an @NVIDIAEmbedded Jetson Xavier AGX!
Huge effort with @MathStorey, I love that I get to work and geek out with awesome people and technology.
I'll post more details when I get on a computer.
What if brain tumours could be characterised during brain surgery?
Luna Djirackor used nanopore methylation detection to demonstrate it could be done in 91 mins, with more than half of tested samples revealing information to inform surgical strategy. londoncallingconf.co.uk/lc21
We're delighted to share a preliminary agenda for virtual London Calling 2021! Stay tuned for more announcements as we introduce an extensive line up of speakers, across multiple areas of research. Check out the agenda so far: bit.ly/3cy03Qc#nanoporeconf
Just generated more DNA sequence in 10 min than in my whole PhD - just a control run but pretty excited to finally be working with the MinION sequencer @nanopore#DNA
Read on for an in-depth look at the role of sequencing during the #COVID19 pandemic, and beyond.
‘@GSanghea told me he sees his company’s tool as enabling a future in which sequencing insights can be derived during every minute of every day.’

I'm really excited to see that our rapid, easier, lower-cost protocol for SARS-CoV2 genome sequencing is on the @nanopore site and is now in a **96 well format!!**("midnight" 1200 bp primer set with the new rapid kit RBK110.96 barcodes). Designed with @osilander and @m_vlkova.
Have also helped introduce @nanopore sequencing in Danish high schools. The flongle is a great format for sequencing amplicons to characterize the bacterial composition of sourdough etc. samples from the students.
*First detection of the SARS-CoV-2 B.1.1.7 lineage in Latin America*
We report the first 2 cases of B.1.1.7 lineage in Brazil & Latin America. Sequencing & phylogenetics interpretation come <36 hours upon sample collection.
