Telltale has confirmed The Wolf Among Us 2 took so long because development was reset in 2022 and spoke about AdHoc (Dispatch)’s involvement:
- In an interview with IGN, Telltale talked about how they were using Unreal Engine 4 and the legacy Telltale pipeline for development
- They pivoted and did a complete reset in 2022, Switching to Unreal Engine 5 and an entirely new development pipeline.
- This change took a full year to do, basically pausing work for a year to get this engine change done.
- AdHoc Studio was involved in the pre-2022 version of TWUA2 but was let go once Telltale realized no work on the game would be done for a year
- Adhoc went on to make Dispatch, Telltale was more than happy to hear about their success
- The final version of TWAU2 will include some of AdHoc’s work, but overall, it’s very different from what it was pre-2022 reset
- They hope they can put out games on a 2 year development cycle after the release of The Wolf Among Us 2
- The remaster of TWAU1 has been in the works for a year and a half, and is a perfect way to get into the series before 2 launches in 2027
It’s a miracle The Wolf Among Us 2 made it out of this development cycle and is going to be a fully content complete game that they’re proud of, couldn’t be more glad this game made it!
