So the cat is out of the bag -- the runtime fee is no more! Huzzah. Guess I can finally upgrade to Unity 6, then. 🤔
After deep consultation with our community, customers, and partners, we’ve made the decision to cancel the Runtime Fee for our games customers, effective immediately. Learn more: on.unity.com/4dZLimi

Had a great time at Unite yesterday! Unity 6 is a step in the right direction and Jim seems like a very different kind of CEO (in a good way), consider me cautiously optimistic. Thanks to Kal for hosting us!

Right then, time to chat about this whole mess. Unity's runtime fee proposal was dumb. It's now slightly less dumb and fixes a lot of the issues I had with it, but the genie is out of the bottle. They've got a lot of work to do... Video Link In Reply👇🏻

For anyone wondering, I'm giving some time for things to settle and a final outcome to be made by @unity However, I am actively considering my options and will be making a video discussing this whole debacle in the near future. My statement:

I've been working a tool in a side-project that helps me procedurally layout roads. Like shader-graph, it's all node based, so I can stack various operations and get different results.

And, because all of this is a series of nodes linked together procedurally, I can make a change to the original shape and the whole thing updates to match! 😲

It's a bit slow, and a little janky right now, (as are most of my tools usually) *but* it has a lot of potential to be a really powerful tool that can do a lot more stuff during my level design process. So, I just wanted to share it with you. Procedural workflows are very cool!
