"We are the most cynical people. Like, we are the jaded crowd who, if a game doesn't entertain us in five minutes we stop playing it." "If you somehow believe that what you're doing is the greatest thing ever, all the time, it's absolutely not going to be the greatest thing ever." Jason Jones ~2003

I'm about half way through chapter 4 (pg 280 exactly) of Hyperion and it actually made me tear up πŸ₯ΊπŸ˜’. This character's kid starts to age backward and the chapter seems to be explaining everything from when that started until now. It starts when she is 25 and I'm at 13 now in the chapter but presently time in the book she is a baby again. Everyday she forgets what happened the day before. And every new day she thinks she is going to do something, like write a test or tryout for something or visit someone, but it actually happened like 10 years ago. The parents have to keep disappointing her that no this isn't going to happen because you're sick. The next day she doesn't remember and thinks something else is happening. She also is shocked everyday how old her parents are, because she remembers them from her age but when she sees them every morning they are actually 20 years older. The father even calls her "kiddo" which is what I call my daughters. I sure hope it ends well for them. Again, if you are into science fiction this is a must read.

Next up on EGM 3D game preview from 30 years ago (June 1996) is of course Crash Bandicoot for the Sony PlayStation. This was less of Super Mario 64's "world in a box" and more of follow the obstacle course.

Local pick ups today. Guardian of the Galaxy (PS5) Scarlet Nexus (PS5) Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction (Xbox) Legacy of Kain Defiance (Xbox) It's crazy that some Switch 1 games with the Switch 2 upgrade are $114 and I got all four of these games for under $75. I was actually seeing some USED Switch 2 games for $75. Fucking insane.

I saw a copy of Clay Fighter Sculptures Cut for the first time ever randomly in the wild today. It was put out today. Pretty cool. Apparently it still has the Blockbuster sticker on the back.

This is Clockwork Revolution. An extended look at just one conversation, with moral choice, and deep reactivity that will follow you through time. Screwing someone over may have far-reaching and unexpected consequences.

EGMs 3D Action Game Preview from 30 years ago (June 1996) starting with Super Mario 64 on the Nintendo 64. The Nintendo 64 released earlier in Japan than North America so gaming mags would really cover it in detail. This was a crazy time in console gaming, first time Mario being in full 3D. The innovation here was next-level, Miyamoto explained the levels were "a world in a box" which really was an earlier way to explain an "open-world" game.

Chips & Bits videogame catalogue advertisement from 35 years ago. I remember reading these in Canada thinking they are super cheap, but my parents never let me order anything. @grok what ever happened to the Chips & Bits?

X-Perts advertisement from 30 years ago for the Sega Genesis. Gaming magazines were typically 50% ads around this time and into the early 2000s. Also note that Genesis games like this were still coming out in June 1996.

Super Rare seem to be very particular with their releases. Someone over there has pretty good taste.
