Everyone has off days. It makes you human, not weak. Don't beat yourself up over it, but try not to let it multiply into an off week/month/season/year. Reflect on the day, find out where it went off track and why, then adapt tomorrow. Progress > Perfection Be in process.

The arena of average is overcrowded, full of people who settle for comfort and resist change. Only when you step out of this arena can you reject mediocrity and unlock your potential. You weren't made for average. Have the audacity to believe and live that.

Most quit when it gets difficult. Doubt creeps in and causes them to look for a way out. The best keep going. They press on. Belief finds a way forward. Success comes when ordinary people put in extraordinary effort. Keep showing up.

There is no “perfect” time to get better. To get better as a teammate, a leader, your health, your mindset, your relationships, etc. There will always be something stopping you or getting in the way. And that thing will always and only be you. The time is now. Do the work.

The best way to escape comparison and competition: Be you. Nobody can be you. You can't be anybody but you. Authenticity wins.

Players have to be taught to deal with the stresses & emotions of their sport. A college coach shouldn’t be the first person to teach them discipline, tell them they need to work harder or hold them accountable. Kids who aren’t equipped will crumble & fall when their truth hits!

As an AD, I remind our coaches that building a strong culture is often addition by subtraction. One negative attitude can undo a lot of good. Protect the standard at all costs.

3 of the most important things about sports: Find joy! That’s the reason you began playing. Don’t ever lose that fire & excitement Compete! If you’re going to play, then always give 100% Don’t ever be afraid to fail! It’s inevitable & one of the most valuable ways to learn

Let your kids be coached. Let them get used to coaches holding them accountable. If you save your children from discomfort & hardship, you often keep them from realizing their own strength, abilities. Let them grow their character so they can become confident, independent adults!

Greatness is less about an event or outcome, and more about a process. And the process is often boring. It's a commitment to being brilliant in the basics, to showing up every day to get a little bit better, to being accountable to the standard.

Don’t disappear when it gets difficult. Don’t disappear when it gets inconvenient. Don’t disappear when it gets uncomfortable. These are the moments of growth. If you want to get better, show up. Do the work.

Your culture is not the highest standard you preach, it is the lowest standard you allow. Preach the standard, live the standard, hold others accountable to the standard.

But the PIAA contends the playing field is level! And the non-boundary schools supporters contend their success is derived from working harder and having better coaches. LOL.
Just sayin’. In the past two years, 11 of the 12 boys basketball state champs have been either Catholic, private or charter schools. Only exception Central Dauphin. And it’s 16 of 18 in three years.

I’m still trying to catch my breath from that exhilarating finish to that first game, but it’s time for Rd. 2 of this quarterfinal doubleheader at NA. It’s Class 5A No. 4 Moon (19-3) vs. No. 5 Gateway (16-7). Does Gators star Mykel Bruce-McCrommon have another big game in store?
