I mean I know God doesn’t want me to succeed and making movies but I’m used to it being a little more subtle.

The Art Directors Guild, IATSE Local 800 #adg800 has issued a statement on Martin Scorsese’s recent promotion of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI): "Mr. Scorsese, The Business is not in flux. Oscar winning director Martin Scorsese is turning his back on the human artists who throughout his career have helped him create his most memorable works. In the recently released Black Forest Labs video promoting their generative AI product FLUX, Mr. Scorsese asks the question, “how do you communicate what you see in your head to your cast and crew?” He claims the solution is the use of this generative AI program to do the jobs that are rightfully the jurisdiction of Art Directors Guild Local 800 artists and designers - human artists and designers who have been successfully collaborating with directors to visualize their films for decades. Mr. Scorsese's promotion of a generative AI product circumvents the input of Art Directors Guild Local 800 art directors, graphic artists, illustrators, production designers, scenic artists, set designers, and other talented Union professionals. Generative AI is only capable of producing this type of “cinematic intelligence” by ingesting large swaths of copyrighted work, likely scraped from the internet without consent, credit, compensation, or transparency. The skills of Art Directors Guild Local 800 artists and designers bring the highest level of value to any film or television production. To think their professional contributions can be mimicked or outshone by generative AI, which is built on work likely stolen from them and many other artists from around the world, is a betrayal of the collaborative nature of cinema."

I hate comparisons but for the sake of just HOW well Obsession is doing - worth it.
🚨 Ultra low budget hit #Obsession now on track to finish with BIGGER global #boxoffice total than latest #StarWars movie #TheMandalorianAndGrogu. Mando looks headed for $375M max while Obsession will soar to MINIMUM of $400M! This is the way (moviegoers spend their $$). 🎬

The $750k everyone is dividing by isn't the number that actually made the money. Curry Barker shot Obsession for $750k. Focus then paid around $14M to acquire it at TIFF, and a 2,600-theater wide release runs tens of millions more in prints and advertising. The real cost basis behind that $148M is closer to $50M than $750k. Still one of the best trades in modern Hollywood. Just not the trade the post describes. Two different companies are winning here. Capstone financed the $750k production and sold worldwide rights, so their return is the $14M check plus international. Focus is playing the distribution margin, where studios keep roughly half of box office, so a $300M finish nets them somewhere around $150M against that ~$50M spend. And "most profitable of all time" already has a holder. Paranormal Activity turned $15,000 into $193M, a 12,900x return on production budget. Obsession at $330M on $750k is 440x. Astonishing, and still nearly 30x short of the record. The number that goes viral is the one that ignores who actually paid for it.
‘OBSESSION’ has grossed around $148M worldwide. Now eyeing a $280-330M finish on a $750k budget. One of the most profitable movies of all time.

How incredible is #Obsession's #boxoffice run?? Just look at how its 3rd wknd per-thtr avg compares to these mega-blockbuster Hollywood sequels! $14,434 - Obsession $13,875 – Avengers: Infinity War $13,578 – Avengers: Endgame $13,314 – Spider-Man: No Way Home $12,167 – Top Gun: Maverick

But Backrooms is IP. So maybe we don’t get carried away and declare everything is dead immediately.
The blockbuster summer movie as we know it is dead. RIP IP. The most talked about movies of the summer are two low budget indie films—OBSESSION and BACKROOMS. Not sequels. Not spinoffs. Not reboots. OGs. Movies are back, baby. This is the way.

Me wondering how they shot this modern indie film with too much coverage and no visual style.

WE BURY THE DEAD. This film is great! I can’t believe folks are watching it and talking about it. Very unique take on a zombie story.

Wow!
I have decided to drop out of the AI program at Amazon. I will not be making a Punky Duck series. Actions speak louder than words. My intent was to showcase artists, both new and seasoned, both inside and outside the studios, driving this new tech. My sincerest apology to those I upset. I promise to do better moving forward. Thank you for your patience with me. I will try harder.

So @MarkDuplass has posted to Threads that Kane Parsons directed Backrooms. He was there, acting in the film. THE END. No more need for this useless conspiracy theory.
