The Kohen Gadol's campaign to help the Soldiers. Rav Tzadok Hakohen's appeal to get Jewish Soldiers in the Polish Army kosher food! Lublin, 1889. “To you, men, I call… children of Avraham Avinu… We here in Lublin see the pressure and the distress, the groan of our brothers, the children of Yisrael, military men who stand at their posts to serve in military duty… they have no kosher food to restore their souls.” Three Gedolim sign this letter, most notably Rav Tzadok Hakohen "Kohen Gadol of Lublin, who's signatures are extremely rare. Possibly the 1st Printed Jewish Censored Sefer! Sefer Meor Einayim, from Reb Azariah min HaAdumim when released in 1573 sparked instant controversy. Even before publication a sample was sent to the leading Rabbi of Italy, after reading it he quickly sent back a letter of rebuke and criticism to the Author. The main issues they had were the seemingly contradictions against Chazal, specifically in respect to the creation of the world. Along with excessive incorporation of secular philosophical works. Due to these problems the Rabbanim of Tzfas led by the Bais Yosef issued a ban on the Sefer and even wanted to burn it. In response to all the backlash, Reb Azariah incorporated the letter from Italy into the revised edition, added his response to it, and removed some of the problematic pages. The first time the Baal Shem Tov was named in a Sefer!!! Even more interesting that the Author of the Sefer was the Yaavetz, a pillar of the Misnagdim back then! During the days of the Baal Shem Tov there was a movement called the Frankist. They were promoting anti Judaism ideas and would frequently debate with the Rabbis of the time. One of these debates took place in the presence of priests in Kaminitz – Podolski. One of the Rabbis chosen to debate was Rabbi Yisrael of Mezhibuzh, the Baal Shem Tov. Rav Yaakov Emden, knows as the Yaavetz, wrote a small Sefer about this debate called Ma’aseh Nora B’Padolia and he names the Baal Shem as one of the Rabbi's making this the first time he was mentioned in a Sefer.

The Chasam Sofer's Yom Kippur Miracle!!! In 1831,the royal authorities of Hungary scheduled the coronation for the renewal of the Emperor’s reign in the city of Pressburg the same day as Yom Kippur. Fearing that this will cause many of the jews in the town to neglect the Holy day, the Chasam Sofer and other leaders tried to persuade the government to postpone the event. On Erev Yom Kippur instead of eating and preparing for the fast, the Chasam Sofer stayed in Shul and Prayed. Miraculously the sky all of a sudden darkened with rain clouds, and a devastating storm hit, destroying many of the decorations and set up of the coronation. This caused the postponement of the coronation, and they were able to observe Yom Kippur properly. This story was a secret until Shabbos Shuva that year when the Chasam Sofer gave his Drasha. He brought a story from the Gemara of a devout Chassid who was deeply immersed in prayer when a governor approached and greeted him. Yet, absorbed in his devotion, the Chassid did not return the greeting. At the end of the Drasha he wrote, “I elaborated and sweetened this topic at length because we believed that the hour necessitated it, as the imperial coronation ceremony was planned either for Erev Yom Kippur or on Yom Kippur itself, and it would inevitably have led to disruptions in the customary Jewish practices on these holiest of days. This is from a letter Rabbi Elchonon Wasserman sent to America, after his yeshiva was exiled to Trakai outside of Vilna, during world war 2. After the Germans invaded Poland, Rav Elchonon fled with his yeshiva to Vilna. About a year later the government made them leave Vilna and move to the nearby town Trakai. They stayed there for about half a year in terrible conditions. Nonetheless the learning remained strong, and diligent. Even in these conditions Rav Elchonon felt that the yeshiva has found rest. In the 1500's after the Jews were expelled from Spain, Don Yosef Nasi moved to Constantinople. There he became the Foreign Minister of the Turkish Sultan. The Turkish Empire then was the most powerful in Europe and due to this Don Yosef had tremendous Power. After his passing his wife, Donna Reyna Nasi, was left with his palace in Belvedere.
