More details revealed about Resident Evil Veronica: Developed by the same team behind the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes!
・Third-person perspective
・Resource management similar to that of RE2
・Final bosses from the original game are expected to appear
・The first-person perspective in the trailer is for presentation purposes only
Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, producer of this remake, explained in an interview with VGC the reasons behind the project, the name change, and the team’s approach. For him, this title carries the same narrative weight as the numbered entries—something that wasn’t always recognized due to its original release on a different console.
“We deeply respect the original title. And that applies to all aspects, including the title ‘Code Veronica.’ However, for us, Code Veronica is just as vital and important as any numbered Resident Evil entry. So the discussion that arose within the development team was: what can we do to convey that to our audience?”
For that reason, they removed the word “Code” to align with the series’ current naming convention (like Village or Requiem) and position it as a main entry. The story is key: it continues the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3, follows the journey of Claire Redfield and her brother Chris, and brings back key characters like Albert Wesker.
“We were able to offer the experience of playing as Leon during the Raccoon City incident with Resident Evil 2 and then continue his story with Resident Evil 4. So one of the main motivations for remaking Veronica was that we also wanted to tell Claire’s story after the events of Raccoon City.”
As for gameplay, he confirmed it will be third-person, in the style of the RE2 and RE4 remakes and developed by the same team that made the RE2 and RE4 remakes. The first-person scene in the trailer was just for presentation purposes. The mechanics will be very similar to those of Resident Evil 2, with resource management and constant tension, though Claire won’t be the same student we met back then:
“It’s not that in three months she’s become a government agent or anything like that, but her experiences haven’t made her the same person she was in RE2.”
The team combines respect for the original material with new ideas, just as they did with the previous remakes. They’ve also taken lessons from Resident Evil Requiem, especially regarding quality and user experience:
“We feel the pressure, but that extends to our philosophy: to respect what made the original great, while offering a new and refreshing experience. We analyzed everything done before, including Requiem, and looked for ways to connect that vision with Veronica’s story.”
The goal is clear: to restore this classic to what it always was: an essential piece in the history of Resident Evil.
