USS Hornet 5-Inch Gun Firing Tests 🇺🇸⚓ Powerful color footage captures the Essex-class aircraft carrier USS Hornet conducting structural firing tests with her twin 5-inch/38 caliber gun mounts. The Hornet (CV-12) was attacked 59 times during her wartime service and relied heavily on these powerful batteries to repel Japanese aircraft. This intense preparation proved vital in countering Japanese air attacks and the growing kamikaze threat across the Pacific.

This day in 1944, British troops of the 22nd Armoured Brigade were ambushed near Villers-Bocage by German Tiger tanks. In a devastating attack lasting only minutes, numerous British tanks, vehicles and anti-tank guns were destroyed, many by Michael Wittmann. German forces later attempted to seize the town itself but were ultimately repulsed. #WW2 #DDay

The Battle for Paris (August 1944) 🇫🇷 After four years of German occupation, French resistance fighters launched a massive uprising to reclaim their capital. Rare colorized footage captures the intense urban combat as the Forces Françaises de l'Intérieur (FFI) battle German troops in the streets of Paris. By August 24, General Leclerc's French 2nd Armored Division had entered the city with M4 Sherman tanks and other armored vehicles. The following day, on August 25, 1944, the German garrison surrendered, helping secure the liberation of Paris and bringing four years of occupation to an end. Digitally restored, enhanced, and presented with sound design to recreate how these moments may have looked and sounded at the time.

This six-second clip is the ONLY one we have Omaha Beach on D-Day. It’s famous. It’s shown in every D-Day documentary and recap. It’s a shame that this is all we have. There was a lot more film on the beach that day, but most of it was ruined by the rain and seawater.

Battle of Manila: Hell in the Streets (1945) 🇺🇸🇵🇭 Colorized footage captures American forces fighting through the shattered streets of Manila during one of the fiercest and most destructive urban battles of the Pacific War. M4 Sherman tanks provide direct fire support as infantry clear buildings room by room, while flamethrower teams blast entrenched Japanese strongpoints hidden deep inside the ruins. Entire districts of the city were left in ruins during the fight to retake Manila.

D-Day in Color: Reinforcements Continue to Pour Into Normandy 🇺🇸🇬🇧 Allied troops wade ashore during the Normandy landings as more waves of infantry, vehicles, and supplies arrive behind the initial assault. LCIs ferry fresh troops from transport ships while LSTs unload jeeps, trucks, and equipment onto smaller landing craft just offshore. An endless flow of men and machinery that kept the invasion moving after the initial landings.
