I spoke with a parent of a Gamecock football player this morning. There were two things that he said that really stood out to him when he talked about being at the game this past weekend: 1- The atmosphere at Williams-Brice. He said it was “unlike anything” he’s ever experienced before. 2- How warm Gamecock fans were to him and his family when they found out their son is on the team (they wear a jersey of their son). From the tailgate lot to inside the stadium, he said, “the fans make you feel like you’re part of their family.” He went on to say: “From the energy to how this community treats their own, @CoachSBeamer is creating something special here and we can all feel it.”

We’ve had an exciting day in Virginia and awarding our newest Milken Educator in Alexandria was an incredible way to round out our stay. English teacher Eva Irwin at Alexandria City High School was just named the newest VA Milken Educator and recipient of $25K. Eva is a natural instructional leader. Her intentionality, positivity, enthusiasm, and solutions-oriented approach help her meet the individual needs of students both in her classroom and throughout the school.
