How do we help kids intentionally create a pathway toward success for themselves?
I have been thinking about this a lot lately, especially in how we view technology usage in school with the increased focus on utilizing AI in our world today.
Speaking with families on this for years, there are two areas that I always try to emphasize in these conversations.
How do we keep kids safe?
How do we help students leverage opportunities in our world for them to be successful?
On the first one, I think it is essential that we help students to navigate technology in a safe way. We wouldnāt take kids on a field trip and hope for the best when they cross the road. We teach them the skills to cross safely because we know if they are able to do that, there are opportunities on the other side.
Regarding the second point, there are many opportunities today that didnāt exist when I was in school. Those opportunities will only grow in the future. I want to teach my own kids to leverage the potential of today and tomorrow, and that is my hope for all learners.
I unintentionally opened doors for myself that I had no idea existed. My goal is to help others intentionally open those doors for themselves.
