🧬 Some discoveries really do take a long gestation. After a very long one (appropriately…), I’m excited to share work revealing an unexpected role for the epigenetic regulator ZFP57- linking development, lactation, milk composition and lifelong health. nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

Our work challenges the idea that mother–offspring co-adaptation is purely environmental. Instead, we show genetically driven co-adaptation, with ZFP57 coordinating nutritional provisioning: prenatally via genomic imprinting and postnatally via mammary and lactation gene networks

🙏This work was only possible thanks to an incredible team! thank you to all my co-authors for their insight, persistence, and patience over the many years this project took to come to life.

Breastfeeding boosts the baby’s lifelong health – but 1 in 20 women have difficulties. @Geula_Hanin @GeneticsCam analysed breast cell changes during lactation, and found that the 'milk squeezing' cells, rather than the 'milk-producing' cells, may be to blame. Find out how this could lead to new ways to supporting mothers 👇 cam.ac.uk/research/news/stud…

New in @Nature🧬: We discovered why keeping weight off is so challenging - fat cells retain an epigenetic #memory of their previous state, even after weight loss. This helps explain the biology behind weight regain. Excited to share our newest work! nature.com/articles/s41586-0…

8/ Strain-specific expression: In addition to imprinting, we identified 16,432 genes with strain-specific expression bias, offering rich insights into genetic variation across different mouse models.
