Very happy to run the CPC half marathon, today! Six years since I’ve ran the half, persuaded by my BSN colleagues and one of my sons, Nathan ( his turn next, in May). Broke the 2 hour barrier with a pb!

Very interesting… explicit vocabulary teaching across the curriculum cultivates high expectations. Helps to build connections. Love to see consistent use of taught, new language in written outcomes.

‘Supporting wellbeing in the classroom involves establishing predictable routines. This isn't just a behaviour strategy; it lays the foundation for trust and safety in the pupil-teacher relationship,’ explains @kirstcolquhoun tes.com/magazine/analysis/ge…

Highlights the multiple facets to teaching process : retrieval, direct teach, guided practice, independent practice, feedback. High expectations of ourselves as teachers is key.

So interesting… practising one sentence brilliantly rather than shoehorning different language techniques as ‘add-ons’
'Crafting Great Sentences' For pupils, practising one sentence brilliantly may be worth a hundred sentences written in haste. You can focus on: - Sentence combining - Sentence shrinking - Sentence expanding - Sentence signposting theconfidentteacher.com/2023…

So important during a busy classroom day to set time aside to read aloud. Going to be my priority this coming year.

Written language contains far more vocabulary words than oral language. In fact most of the words that comprise a student’s reading vocabulary will appear in their lives only in written texts... teachlikeachampion.org/blog/…

We struggled with this, too. Using the scaffold of Colourful Semantics helps with ideas and sentence structure leading to significant improvements in flow and stamina, together with enthusiasm and confidence. Particularly effective with EAL children in an international setting.
'The Struggle with Writing Stamina' What is writing stamina anyway, and how do we solve this common issue? It is a lack of ideas, a handwriting issue, a lack of planning, or a tricky combination? theconfidentteacher.com/2023…

Interesting. Have noticed, during a recent unit for Year 3, creating leaflets for Year 2 students, students revising writing when publishing. As they know the content so well AND they are going to share them with the students, revising is a natural process.
