#France

Amid economic
#hardship, rising
#costs, and a tense political climate, France’s 2024 European election became a major
#battleground. Marine Le Pen’s Rassemblement National (
#RN) secured a decisive lead with 31.4% of the vote, while President
#Macron’s Renaissance list lagged at 14.6%. Jean-Luc
#Mélenchon’s left-wing La France Insoumise (
#LFI) captured 9.9%, reflecting internal party divides heightened by recent global
#conflicts. National
#concerns took center stage, with widespread
#discontent toward Macron fueling strong
#populist support on both sides. This
#election became a ‘second-order’
#referendum on Macron’s
#leadership, pushing him to announce a snap legislative
#election. While the RN’s dominance underscored its political strength, the reinvigorated Republican Front prevented Le Pen’s party from an outright majority, leading to a hung parliament split across three blocks.
