P3AL spent an afternoon learning how to plant seeds as part of their IDL topic. They will take their pots home and hopefully their sunflowers will bloom and help to feed the pollinators.
P4&5 visited the #countrysideclassroom2026 event near Barr. We learned, smiled and had tons of fun. We listened to the noises of the countryside and enjoyed the sunshine. We ate our lunch on bales and ate an ice cream from Girvan Gelateria! We loved our trip to the country!
P4&5 learned about soils, dairy and meat. We explored what food different farmers produce. We tasted cheeses. We used soil sampling equipment and microscopes. We learned about the traceability of animals entering the food chain and the ear tags they wear.#countrysideclassroom2026
P4&5 met gamekeepers and gun dogs. We learned about the jobs they do and the importance of conservation work on a farm. We explored and identified skulls. We looked at their equipment and traps. We helped to train the gun dogs and watched them working. #countrysideclassroom2026
P4&5 visited the wildlife tent to track animals with the Biosphere, learn about bogs, explore declining wading birds, use bat sonar detection equipment, explore dendrology with Scottish Woodlands, meet Land energy and dissect owl pellets! #countrysideclassroom2026
P4&5 learned about renewable energy. They worked in teams to design new blades for a turbine. They tested their designs to see which produced the most electricity. Teamwork, communication and practical STEM skills were strengthened and lots of fun had!#countrysideclassroom2026
P4&5 visited the country craft tent to learn about beekeeping, quilting, crochet, felting, lacemaking, basket weaving, stick turning and spinning wool. Lots of numeracy skills were showcased while we learned traditional crafting skills. π π§Ά π§Ί π§΅ #countrysideclassroom2026
P4&5 explored different machinery on a farm. We compared tractors through the ages and thought about why the changes were needed. We looked at old tools and guessed what they were used for. We met Carrick resilience and learned what they do to help us. #countrysideclassroom2026
P4&5 learned about a variety of heritage careers including stone masonry. They were taught how people carve shapes into stone by using soap blocks and special carving tools. #developingourfutureworkforce#countrysideclassroom2026
P4&5 learned how to clip sheepβs fleeces, weighed and felt the fleece, met some chicks and sheep, learned how to dress a sheep for a show and asked questions to our real life farmers about how to care for their stock! π #countrysideclassroom2026
π£ P4/5 enjoyed a session at the Stinchar learning to fly fish, tying the famous Stinchar Stoat fishing fly, and using kick sampling to identify river quality indicator species. They also got up close to brown trout and salmon! ππΏ #countrysideclassroom2026
