Global South Mindset Initiative, GSMI, is a Canadian not-for-profit organization empowering K–12 students in Global South communities through mindset, leadership, and global citizenship education. Research from UNICEF and UNESCO shows that early childhood development plays a critical role in shaping confidence, emotional intelligence, resilience, learning, and long-term life outcomes. Positive role models and supportive learning environments can significantly influence children’s aspirations and future success. Through athletes, mentors, and global role models, GSMI helps children build confidence, empathy, adaptability, leadership, and belief in their potential before limiting beliefs take root. #SkollWF 2026 began with a conversation between Wawira Njiru founder of @Food4Education and Trevor Noah of @TrevorNoahFdn who offered a sharp reminder that social entrepreneurship is not just about vision. It is about systems, discipline, dignity, and staying close to the people you serve.
A few takeaways that stood out for social entrepreneurs:
• Start with a goal that is small enough to be real. Big impact often begins with a number you can actually reach and then build from.
• Design for dignity, not just delivery. The strongest models do not treat people as passive beneficiaries. They create agency, ownership, and pride.
• Scale is not only about growth. It is about preserving quality, trust, and accountability as complexity increases.
• Local knowledge matters. Community rooted teams, suppliers, and partners are often the reason a model works at all.
• Governments matter. Social entrepreneurs can test, iterate, and prove what works, then help public systems adopt and expand it.
