BRIGHT COMET ALERT THIS MONTH! Our photo of Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, observed 14/10/24, may be similar to the view of Comet A6 Lemmon which has brightened in recent days. Astronomers predict it will become visible naked-eye around 20/10/25. Clear skies! #Astronomy #stargazing

There are many things this ‘could’ be, one of which is a giant space turd shat, intentionally or otherwise, towards the solar system from what passes for the arse of a sentient molecular cloud. My money, however, is on a lump of ice and rock.
🚨BREAKING: 7-MILE “ALIEN CRAFT” LOCKED ON EARTH - 94 DAYS UNTIL IT DISAPPEARS BEHIND THE SUN It’s the size of Manhattan, moving at 130,000 mph and showing “non-gravitational acceleration” with no cometary outgassing. Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb warns: “It might be on a reconnaissance mission.” “This is a blind date from another star… we shouldn’t assume anything.” One of the “most puzzling” signs? This thing is accelerating in ways that defy physics and it’s not acting like a comet. We’ve got 94 days before it vanishes behind the Sun. What the HELL is heading towards us? 📷 - New York Post
Community note
Misleading: The studies authors conclude that the object is likely a natural interstellar comet, with their physics based findings pointing to natural phenomena rather than extraterrestrial technology. lweb.cfa.harvard.edu/~loeb/HCL25.pdf

Keep your eyes peeled for noctilucent "night-shining" clouds over the coming evenings and early mornings. The electric-blue wispy clouds appear towards the northern horizon approximately an hour after sunset and an hour before sunrise. 23:00 BST and 02:30 BST are ideal times.

Enjoy this fab presentation by @DrJeniMillard on how astronomers and the human exploration of space advance Society and improve our daily lives.
Ahh space… bit of a waste of time isn’t it? I mean, it looks cool, love the pics, but honestly, what’s the point? It’s not making my life easier, right? … sure about that? 😜 My @TEDx talk is finally in the wild! Enjoy 🥳 @esa @NASA_Johnson @ESO youtu.be/d_sAoddkyik?si=fhZ4…
