This story wasn't meant to be canon, and this is why, at its core: It's not a Batman story. This is a Joker story, which is why it ends with a laugh. If it was a Batman story, it would have ended with him breaking all of Joker's bones.
But alas.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. I don't regret buying the Absolute Edition, and it is one of my favorites. There's enough drama regarding Moore and this story, in particular, among Batman mythos fans, so instead of quarreling, let's all appreciate Brian Bolland.

The Killing Joke isn't bad at all, the discussion around it is annoying but the comic itself is good.
If you want to hate Moore hate him for being an asshole to Miller out of pure political resentment.
