The Department of Game & Fish has some unexpected new staff this spring. 🪿 A family of goslings nested right outside their building — and they did not ask for permission. If you find young wildlife this season, the best thing you can do is leave them alone. Mom is likely nearby. Contact your nearest Game & Fish office if the animal appears hurt or in danger.

Thanks to NPR’s “On Point” for the important conversation about what could be possible if states weren’t left footing the bill when Washington decides to make cuts.

Today, Second Judicial District Judge Elaine Lujan dismissed a frivolous challenge to New Mexico's universal child care program. This program is lawful, and it will continue to serve New Mexico families. New Mexicans deserved better than a lawsuit that put them through weeks of unnecessary anxiety over a program they count on. The judge's ruling makes it clear: New Mexicans can plan their families, finances and careers with the confidence that universal child care is here to stay. kob.com/new-mexico/judge-rul…

I am proud to have supported nearly $5 million to help renovate the housing structures on the plaza of San Felipe Pueblo. The improvements added natural gas, water, and sewer connections to homes that have anchored the community for centuries. The construction was done by the pueblo's own workforce. The benefits will reach current and future generations alike. “Governor Lujan Grisham's Capital Outlay made this project a reality for current and future homeowners of the Pueblo of San Felipe. This funding assisted with much needed housing and infrastructure services, and was key to supporting the Pueblo’s Community Based Tribal Workforce” - Isaac Perez, San Felipe Housing Director #NewMexico #PuebloOfSanFelipe #IndianAffairs #NativeNewMexico

Yesterday’s ruling by the New Mexico Supreme Court affirmed what we've always believed: protecting New Mexico's most vulnerable newborns is lawful, defensible, and necessary. The drugs devastating our families today demand a different response from state government. My executive order is part of that response — and it has already saved lives. The order is designed as a temporary structure to protect our most vulnerable children, not as punishment of their parents. We want families together and we want parents well. New Mexico will continue to lean in, as hard and as far as it takes, to connect parents with treatment and give them every tool they need. With this court decision, families retain due process, parents have a path toward recovery, and babies get a fighting chance.

New Mexico ranked 49th in a recent national child well-being report. That ranking is a reminder that we still have work to do. In recent years, New Mexico has improved graduation and literacy rates, reduced child poverty, increased family income, expanded childcare access and made historic investments in children and families. The work isn't finished, but we will continue investing in children, families and opportunities because every New Mexican deserves the chance to succeed.

Healthcare access and personal medical decisions should not depend on where you live. New Mexico will continue standing up for healthcare access, personal freedom and the right for women to make their own healthcare decisions. The abortion pill has been FDA approved for more than 20 years and remains an important part of reproductive healthcare. For many women, this issue is not political. It's personal. That's why New Mexico has taken action to protect reproductive healthcare providers, safeguard patients seeking legal care and prevent cooperation with efforts to criminalize reproductive healthcare access. We also repealed an outdated law that could have criminalized abortion providers after Roe v. Wade was overturned.

New Mexico just earned the only "A" grade in the nation for making it easier to connect rooftop solar and home batteries to the power grid — and we're the only state to do so. A new national report scored all 50 states on how smoothly homeowners and businesses can plug clean energy into the grid. Most states scored a C or worse. New Mexico stood alone at the top, recognized for clear rules, transparency, and strong standards for solar and battery storage. More clean energy on the grid means more reliability, more options, and a stronger energy future for New Mexicans. 🌞⚡ Click the link to read the report. utilitydive.com/news/new-mex…

6/6 during Route 66’s 100th anniversary year feels pretty fitting. New Mexico is home to the longest stretch of Route 66 in the country with more than 400 miles crossing communities throughout our state. And now we even have our own Route 66 themed Chex Mix this summer.
