Recently conserved object from Northampton Museums (on loan from Sulgrave Manor). Attributed to an ancestor of President George Washington. This 1650 work required work to the slip frame and mount.

Carved head conservation for Experience Barnsley. Treatments were removal of modern mortar and cleaning using biocide to remove algae and lichen. What are your thoughts on age. Mediaeval, post mediaeval or more modern ?

Training session in washing museum textiles at Experience Barnsley today. Staff and volunteers and they all got their hands wet during the washing session. The military grade fans certainly did the trick during drying ! 👍👍👍

More breakdown of the original animal glue than anticipated. But as this object was not structurally sound, joints and splits were re-bonded with conservation grade adhesive after careful deconstruction. 👍

Consolidation and reconstruction of a Roman hobnail shoe (caliga) soil 🤔 cast. All parts were reconstructed using acryloid adhesive after first being consolidated with four coats of a water based acrylic consolidant.

Another item returned to Heritage Doncaster. This local map of Owston Fields (1724) had various old repairs. Now cleaned, repaired and encapsulated, this can be accessed by the public in Doncaster's archives. 👍👍👍

This two page will document was quite fragile and needed re-constructing and re-lining. It was humidified, flattened and then re-lined and left to dry. Final stage was to encapsulated it in a new in polyester sleeve. 👍👍👍

Ouabaine is a plant based toxin from East Africa used as an arrow poison. It was then later adapted to cure hypotension and heart arrhythmias.
Also used by the African Crested Rat also uses it as defense from predators.

So privileged to have been able to conserve a group of objects by local Doncaster hero Charles Smith, including his George Cross. The medal was awarded to Smith for his heroism during a roof collapse at the Askern Colliery.

Been asked to survey and quote for the conservation of this late 18th century hand pumped fire engine from Cannon Hall Museum, kept on site since new.

Condition checking and conserving a set of 'Civilian Clothing 1941' (CC41) clothing this week. This WW2 British government designation for rationed clothing had a label that gained the nickname, "The Cheeses" ! 👍

Dealing with hazards in collections this week. These fire grenades (precursor to the modern fire extinguisher) had their contents removed, then repaired. Client was very happy with the results. 👍

These modern bronze deer had some unsightly flaking of the dried patination fluid used in manufacture. This was removed and new patination adding where necessary. Very happy with the results on these magnificent beasts. 👍
