To be a consultant on it. As long as it continues to be a collection of brand-friendly influencers, established creators with existing ties to WotC, or personalities chosen for how safe they are rather than how honest they are, I cant take any new edition seriously.

What would you have wanted to have seen addressed with a 6E revamp?

“Common sense” for encumbrance always sounds weird to me. I get that some systems make it tedious, but I don’t really agree with handwaving it away entirely. What’s next, common sense hit points? Common sense armor class? At some point, you either have rules or you’re vibing scene to scene. YMMV.

No, see that's balancing. I've always just used common sense with encumbrance, not tracking minor details 🤷‍♂️

I think books are absolutely going to become prestige items. Expensive enough that $5-10 a month starts to feel like the smarter deal. Then a couple years pass, you’ve spent far more than the books ever cost, and FOMO’d yourself into buying a mountain of digital assets you don’t actually own.

Early RPG books were trying to teach referee philosophy, not just deliver rules efficiently. Modern readers want the executable sentence immediately.
Why was Gary like this? An entire paragraph of waffling on, when he could have simply stated: "If the party is much higher level than the monsters, reduce the XP accordingly."

Some CCGs are stock markets or slot machines for kids and collectors. People camp outside stores before opening hoping to “hit big”, while thieves now rob card shops like jewelry stores. Somewhere along the line the hobby stopped being about the game.

According to WotC, every monster, race, and culture in a world of make believe might be a coded real world allegory capable of offending folks. Don’t worry though. They are here to right these terrible injustices of imagination! You know, sometimes winged monkey pirates are just winged monkey pirates...
Once you are making apologies on behalf of fictional characters or races, you've pulled the plug on your brain, and it's off life support. This quote is from WotC about the Hadozee, a species of winged monkey pirates. Someone decided that the Hadozee backstory is "racist" evidently. I don't know much about the Hadozee but I do know imbecility when I see it.

At this point, the corpo monetization strategy isn’t even hidden anymore. The books stay the prestige object, and D&D Beyond becomes the content machine.
Chris Cocks says it makes sense to move D&D to a "live service" model, but Hasbro will always make physical books #ttrpg #dnd twp.ai/9OWTOY

I’ve always thought these were cool. Over the years, I’ve made my own parchment handouts and sealed them with wax. It’s always fun to hand them to the players.
A collection of antique European wax seals, potentially from the 18th or 19th century.

Sound off. It's like a gaming palate cleanser.
I'M ALWAYS LOOKING TO FOLLOW FOLKS WHO MOSTLY TALK ABOUT RPGS. If your posts are primarily RPG-related (and everything around them... art, tools, influences, games, etc) and I'm not Following you, let me know here. I'll check out your page.

The #daredevil finale wanted image more than the logic. Daredevil imprisoned. Kingpin free. Justice inverted... On paper, that’s a strong comic book ending. But casually bargaining with Fisk minutes after a massacre is ridiculous. The writers escalated Fisk too far while still needing him available for future seasons and avoiding another “Kingpin in jail” arc. The problem is Fisk never truly outmaneuvered Matt. They just… let him go. smh.

FYI. This is a really cool RPG project and you should check it out.
We launch Ruttigers tomorrow! It’s been a long journey through designing and redesigning the system several times, releasing and getting feedback from two big public play tests, setting up our crowd funder, and now we are finally ready to launch. A bit of a thread below:

They’re managing the brand first and the game second. Legacy gets emphasized or minimized depending on what serves that goal.
In a time when Wizards is apparently "Welcoming the Gygax name" back into the fold, always worth revisiting this excellent blog regarding how they treated the OG's by VolkColopatrion: medium.com/@volkcolopatrion4…

I may be late to the party, but there’s a “Forests of Leng” AD&D style book in True Detective S3 and of course I paused. Artist Juan Moore sharing the mockups of covers he made for the show just makes it better.

Modern play mentality. People can scoff, but there’s a whole crowd of players who assume they’re the heroic protagonist and expect the world to bend to them.
No one needs to be concerned about balancing an open-world/sandbox D&D game It's ok to have areas that are a cakewalk and areas that will humble players. They'll be able to handle it when they return This isn't Oblivion, not every brigand scales to party-level
