Jeff Landry had no problem finding money for corporate giveaways, rich kids, school vouchers, and pet projects.
But now he wants to pit school tutoring programs against teacher salaries.
Lil Jeff Louisianans see straight thru your game.
Today, Louisiana has 100k less students in the public school system since I graduated, and we pay twice as much to educate them.
At the same time, teacher pay in Louisiana has actually gone down when adjusted for inflation.
I have continually advocated for a stable funding source to support permanent increases in teacher pay. Since I issued my Executive Order, many school districts have begun to give teachers the much needed raises they deserve!
When the overcollections fund reaches the amount needed to pay the stipend, the money will be sent to the school districts. Those schools that already gave stipends or raises exceeding or equal to $2,000 (teachers) $1,000 (support staff) can simply use the MFP stipend allocation to backfill their budgets.
There is no requirement in the EO for a double payout, but I do encourage the districts to maximize efficiency and return those savings to the teachers.
