Finally updated our driving plate website! Now has updated info on our new compact easy-stitch VR rig and virtual driving plates using Unreal Engine: drivingfootage.com
What grows our muscles?
Hard.
What grows our character?
Hard.
What grows our brain?
Hard.
New challenges, overcoming obstacles, problem solving - all of these create new pathways and connections in your brain.
Every time you shortcut hard via AI, you stunt your growth.
Fun fact:
If you earned $1,000/day it would take you almost 3 million years to earn a trillion dollars.
A trillion $1 bills laid end to end would stretch approximately 96.9 million miles - roughly 4,000 times around the earth.
Charging everything before another shoot day tomorrow!
I really love the 6-bay chargers, and also batteries that can charge directly by USB-C without needing a charger.
Hard to believe it was 11 years ago we released our animated kids YouTube channel abc123songs!
My wife and I shot it in our living room, and had a blast doing it.
2 yrs ago, we were trying to sell off our driving plate library & one-of-a-kind camera car, because we were hit so hard by the 2023 double strikes.
Thanks to 2 series plus a few indie films, we rallied and 2024 ended up our best year by far!
So happy we didn’t quit.
Heads up in Valencia! Gas is so expensive, thieves are now drilling holes into gas tanks to steal gas. Happened to us and was expensive to replace the tank!
Very happy to report that lots of people have read my book "Capture If You Can: How to Preserve Videotape Before it Goes Extinct" and set up successful videotape transfer businesses!
Many have contacted me and continue to ask me to consult as they grow their businesses.
There has never been a better time, as machines are still available and millions of tapes are out there ready to be transferred!

One fringe benefit of working on documentaries and industrial videos is you learn a lot!
By the time I finish shooting and editing 72 pilates instructional videos I'm sure to know a massive amount about it.
Same has happened across other documentary and reality content I've worked on before, like "Unseen Africa" and "William Shatner's Weird or What" (unexplained mysteries).
I’ll never get tired of seeing behind the scenes of productions using our driving plates!
Often they only need 1 angle, or sometimes 3 or 4.
Can you believe — if they buy 4 angles from us they save $1800 vs our competitors!
And fun fact: it can be cheaper to hire us for a custom driving plate shoot than buying library clips!
We currently have shoots booked in Chicago and Singapore… it doesn’t matter where, we can get there!
Our driving plates are a thorn in our competitors’ sides because ours are so much more affordable!
They called us multiple times to ask us to raise our prices, but we refused.
We give crazy discounts to indie filmmakers, and pay as you can for students & micro-budget.
The best camera is the one you have!
17 years ago I saw this pigeon riding the subway, and turned my laptop’s webcam around so I could record him.
The footage ended up being used on a TV show!

The location for the Pilates instructional videos I’m shooting —
- 15 x 130 lb machines have to be moved out of the way and put back after.
- shooting against wall of windows with mirrors on all sides yet not seeing the light sources reflected in the windows. Lots of R&D!
3 years ago we did a massive multi-month driving plate shoot — added roughly 35,000 new clips to our library, from major cities like Washington DC, New York, Chicago, Austin, Denver, Seattle, Calgary, Winnipeg and many more!
This was my view as we shot:
Did you know?
There are literally hundreds of millions of Hi8 videotapes out there, but nowhere near enough working machines to capture them.
We will reach a time soon where it will be impossible to play a Hi8 tape.
When Ben Affleck says “It’s not going to take 1,000 people to render something, but it’s not going to replace human beings” — says people who work in VFX are not human beings.
The filmmaker/producer/lead actors are not threatened, but everyone else is.

In honor of Anthony Head... here is a shot of me playing Giles in a "Once More With Feeling" quarantine musical 5 years ago (which happened to also feature writer Mickey Fisher): youtube.com/watch?v=kHHjEJrh…
