Greek banking dinosaurs had it coming. Shame on the Central Bank of Greece and local politicians for not making sure domestic banks actually serve their purpose, rather than keep raking up ridiculous fees and harming the growth prospects of the Greek economy.

18% of Greece’s population now banks with us. (That’s 2 million people btw)

This includes a good chunk of Greek and Cypriot waters and territories. An appropriate response to this would be Greece countering by declaring Constantinople and most areas of modern Anatolia Greek again.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling AK Party is seeking to give him the power to declare an exclusive economic zone extending as far as 200 nautical miles (370 kilometers) from Turkey’s coast bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Greece was once shut out of markets and collecting too little tax. Today it runs a primary budget surplus and stands as one of only five EU countries to do so. Tax administration reform powered this striking reversal. imf.org/en/news/articles/202…

Anonymity is a core principle of the open web. This is a terrible decision by the Greek government, one tha paves the road toward authoritarianism. “Toxicity” is not an excuse for total governmental control of free speech. I hope this preposterous idea is retracted.
A new law in Greece is being proposed that would ban anonymity on social media The new law would require every person to link their real name in an attempt to reduce online toxicity by making people stand behind their comments

With the proposal to ban anonymity on the digital public sphere, the Greek government is going many steps too far. Legacy media in GR are concentrated among a handful of oligarchs, each tied to their own political friends. Now the digital public sphere will also be controlled?

The digital public sphere is too precious to be left either to the big tech “robber barons” or the political elites of the day. I stand 1000% against the decision of the GR govt to eliminate digital anonymity. Please reconsider before it’s too late. @kmitsotakis @papastergiougr

It’s one of the most transformative periods for Greece today: boring but risky (economically), exciting but perilous (geopolitically), depressing but comical (politically), encouraging yet radical (technologically). And yet the country has never been more detached from reality.

Throwback to when the former UK finance minister made fun of Greece for keeping its defense spending up. Funny how this reads today.
Cabinet: Javid took swipe at Wallace after he called for more defence funding & highlighted fact UK is 1 of 6 EU Nato nations hitting 2% target Javid: ‘That’s only if you include Greece which has a conscript army which spends much of year drinking ouzo’ thetimes.co.uk/article/3af3f…

I didn’t get it when I was young. But laiki is Greek life at its finest.
The Greek farmers market (laiki) is in my top 10 experiences here and I’m not even kidding

A Greek word is always behind it.
The Greek word for “thousand” is ‘chilioi.’ The French changed the spelling to ‘kilo.’ ‘kilo’ = k
