Rental inflation is predicted to DOUBLE next year - this morning Essential found 60% of Australians support a rent freeze & millions are one rent increases away from eviction or financial stress. There is no justification for Labor refusing to coordinate a national rent freeze.

Brilliant news in Victoria this morning. Great work to all those who have been fighting to end native forest logging!💚
My face reading that NATIVE FOREST LOGGING WILL END in Victoria by Jan next year! Labor has been dragged kicking and screaming to this decision. THANK YOU to all those who fought for this win. 💚

Here it is - Tanya Plibersek just approved Labor's first new coal mine. Opening new coal in a climate crisis shows Labor is in full-blown science denial. We don't need new coal and the climate cannot afford it. A wilful act of climate vandalism. Shameful.
In the same week the Albanese Govt gave next to nothing in the Budget for the environment, Minister Plibersek has tonight signalled her intent to approve a new coal mine - the Isaac River Coal Mine. A new coal mine in koala habitat. Bad move. Wrong way Minister, go back 🛑

We are introducing a bill to the ACT Assembly this week to raise the minimum age of criminal responsibility – making the ACT the first Australian jurisdiction to legislate an increase to 14 years.

ACT Police have banned the use of spit hoods. Good. They should never have been used. I’d like to see legislative bans so the ACT never goes back to such dehumanising practices.

A community win! 🎉 Today, Greens MLA for Ginninderra, Jo Clay, tabled a petition with over 3000 signatures, calling for a freestanding birth centre. Canberrans have been campaigning for this since the 80s, and finally today received commitment from the ACT Gov to build one.

Midwives will co-design the northside freestanding birth centre and make sure we get a great outcome. We also got commitment to better support home birthing, birthing on Country and extended midwife-led continuity of care to more birth parents.

My statement on Senator Lidia Thorpe's resignation from the Greens: Senator Thorpe has made a phenomenal contribution to the Greens and I’m truly sorry to see her leave our party room. I'm sad to see her go, as I respect her greatly as a fighter for her people.

Great to see @AUWUCBR on Lonsdale Street today!
Today we are protesting out the front of DES provider @Nexus_HS, who have been violating the participant rights of @lawrence75and by goading him into face-to-face appointments, and violating his right to 48 hours consideration of his job plan. #AbolishMutualObligations

Tomorrow @jdaviscbr will call for a more progressive approach to drug law reform as part of the debate on the ‘Drugs of Dependence (Personal Use) Amendment Bill 2021’. 🧵1/4

The Government’s amendments as they stand will create a new arbitrary possession threshold that will retain criminal penalties. In doing so, they risk continuing to criminalise vulnerable people in our community who need the most support and the most compassion. 3/4

We need to go boldly in our approach to reform on this very important issue. Our amendments will retain current, evidence-based possession thresholds and bring about a health-based response to drug use rather than a criminal one. 4/4
