Good morning from Croatia, where the butterflies keep coming and the scenery continues to be beautiful!
🦋Great Sooty Satyr & Southern White Admiral🦋
We’re butterflying with Greenwingers in Serbia, Romania, Croatia, Greece, and Bulgaria. Groups of like-minded, nature-loving folk, all having a great time and learning together is what it’s all about!
Apparently, it's all the rage in Croatia to adorn ones hat with a Two-tailed Pasha! 🦋
Letting the butterflies come to us instead of chasing around ticking a list is the best way to enjoy a place & brings its own rewards like this 😎
Another fantastic day on the 'Butterflies of Northern Greece', with some very special butterflies seen, including Lesser Fiery Copper, Map, Yellow-banded Skipper and Blue Argus; hard to choose a favourite given all we've seen. What a wonderful part of the world!
'Croatian Copper'
Large & Purple-shot Copper, just 2 of the many butterfly highlights from our ongoing tour in Croatia yesterday. Pretty spectacular scenery too; sometimes worth looking up as well as down!
Picture postcards sent back from our group in Croatia...
Nickerl's Fritillary (Melitaea aurelia) on Bug Orchid (Anacamptis coriophora), Owlfly (Libelloides macaronius), plus stunning scenery in Plitvice National Park.
A Papilionidae family day on our tour of Northern Greece, with all of our targets seen, namely Eastern Festoon, Clouded Apollo, Scarce Swallowtail and Swallowtail. All in beautiful surroundings in a beautiful country! 🦋🇬🇷

Two's company, three's a crowd, four's a ... ??!!
This mating pair of Black-veined White, photographed on the tour of Northern Greece, were photobombed by not one, but two males that were both trying to disrupt events!

Love is in the air! Wonderful to watch a courting couple of Southern White Admiral on the tour of northern Greece, along with a mating pair of Sooty Copper and literally thousands of Nettle-tree Butterflies going about their business!

More picture postcards sent back from our Prespa group in northern Greece today. What a wild & wonderful place!
Broad-bordered Bee Hawk-moth (Hemaris fuciformis), Freyer's Fritillary (Melitaea arduinna), Penduline Tit (Remiz pendulinus), Balkan Spadefoot (Pelobates balcanicus).
One of the today's many highlights from our ongoing butterfly tour in Romania....Iolas Blue (Iolana iolas). The largest European blue and beautiful it is too!
Crimson Speckled (Utetheisa pulchella).
Saw several today & it is a moth colourful enough to distract me from what was my main quarry, which was Loew's Blue butterflies - more on those later!

This time last year Lake Kerkini in northern Greece...
Our @Greenwings group is out there now enjoying the same sights and sounds. I know they'll be loving it as much as I always do there. A special place I've been visiting since 2013 & will never stop going back to.
Our tours in the 'Lake District' on northern Greece keep on giving with some great flora & fauna.
Here's a pair of beautiful blooms from this afternoon in Prespa - Lilium candidum and Himantoglossum jankae.
