Much will be written on The Pogues in the next few days. They were an extraordinary thing, they can not be understood simply as an 'Irish band' or a 'London band' but as something rooted in a very unique identity that exists in the Diaspora. Remember too that they combined Irish-born musicians, like the brilliance of Terry Woods and Philip Chevron, with those raised in the second generation communities. They meant so much in places like Kilburn, West Hampstead, Salford and Liverpool. Sleep easy Shane.
