Presenting some very interesting findings at #acsm2024 on endurance-training girls that hopefully will be published in a journal soon 👇 The impact of puberty strongly influences the development of VO2max and may obscure potential training-induced changes for the 🫀 and🩸

Spennande forskingsnytt nå like før skisesongen startar.

🆕 First PhD study out! 🏃Coaching youth athletes and considering to boost fitness in pre-season? 👇 🔍Our findings show that high-intensity training do not improve VO2max more than low-intensity strength or play-based training. Link: doi.org/10.1111/sms.14489 @JosteinHallen

This is definitely worth a read for those interested in maturity-biases in sports - lots of great insights and quotes from coaches on advantages/disadvantages of maturing early or late in academy football!

🌱Puberty is an important time for healthy and strong bones to develop 🦴 🏃🍽️For young athletes, eating enough food and vit D are two factors to promote healthy bones and possibly reduce injury risk, especially during the dark winter (hey all🇳🇴🇸🇪) A nice short review on this👇

Signs of athlete's heart already by the age of 12 in👧&👦endurance athletes. Through adolescence, boys🫀 adapt and enlarge more than girls🫀. Nice figs and study with data from a cohort in our research group @MarianneForsaa @JosteinHallen @ThorEdvardsen openheart.bmj.com/content/10…

Offside rule 101 with some very nice graphics. Nothing new here (for those who knows the rules) but maybe some inspiration to explain other complicated topics in an easy way 🤩 washingtonpost.com/sports/in…

Research does not always involve lab coats and measuring o2 and blood 🌡 Various efforts are done behind the scenes but are rarely revealed. Mine today: Picking up our 13-yr old subjects in a bus 1hr from of our lab, listening to them singing Justin Biebers “Baby” on repeat 🤷🏼‍♂️😅

Just out! In 🇳🇴 track running, the relative age effect is evident in both 60m and 600m What is striking, something happens around peak growth spurt for most boys (13-14 years)🤔They run from both the girls and their relatively younger classmates Open📖 doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone…

The odds of being the best (top 100) do persist to senior level but decreases. Take-home message: focus on mastery and individual progress rather than performance between individuals in the same age group. Give all young athletes time to reach their potential ⭐️
