At #3C dialogue with @IE_OlderPersons, Portugal 🇵🇹 noted that the #PactForTheFuture and the Declaration for #FutureGenerations contain references to intergenerational solidarity which can strengthen visibility on older persons, and a tool to safeguard the rights of #OlderPersons.

Older persons often face significant barriers to exercising their legal capacity over personal decisions.
The root cause are "ageism, prejudices and assumptions based on age prevalent in society," @IE_OlderPersons Claudia Mahler told the @UN Human Rights Council.

It was a pleasure to discuss my recent report, legal capacity of older persons and informed consent at the @bagso_de side event. It was an enriching dialogue about existing challenges, but also good examples. 1 thing is certain: Age should not be a reason to restrict capacity!

We have the important 14th session of the #OEWGA ahead, which will determine how Member States protect the human rights of older persons. I look forward to hearing States advocate for a legally binding instrument that best protects the rights of older persons in their diversity.
