🦇WAKEY WAKEY🦇 Bats are more active this week & we had more rescues including this common pipistrelle from Ballymoney - he had a run in with a cat and was lucky to escape with just a small puncture in the membrane. Thanks to finder Nathan & our ambulance driver Ian #LoveBats

Please do not disturb hibernating bats. Not only is it illegal to do so but it can endanger their chances of survival through winter as they can use vital fat reserves when they become active unnecessarily.

Today's bat (and final from my trip to Thailand): Chaerephon plicatus, half a million bats inhabit this cave. They emerge at dusk in a column to feed at night on planthoppers, a desastrous pest insects for rice plants. Keep on doing your good job for people in Southeast Asia!

November is here and for bats periods of torpor are lasting longer. Some begin hibernation, to save energy over the colder months, when insects are harder to find. They are using stored fat as fuel to get them through the winter. bats.org.uk/about-bats/a-yea… #WinterIsComing #bats
