We'd much prefer to contribute to more positive stories about active travel in Merton - maybe next time, especially if the Walking and Cycling Strategy is ambitious. @Merton_Council @RossGarrod @cllr_alambritis @eleanorSW19

Merton residents have said they fear for their lives when cycling through the borough While the council plans to improve cycling infrastructure, many feel the borough lags 'far behind' the rest of London @H_Galliven1 mylondon.news/news/south-lon…

Great to speak at the Sustainable Communities Scrutiny Committee about Merton's Cycling & Walking Strategy, last night with @GroupMerton. Over 1000 contributed to the consultation, giving as a great mandate to do what's needed to enable more ppl to cycle! Let's do this!

With spaces still left on next week's Under 18s bike maintenance workshop, why not help your kids learn a practical life skill this summer. Because you're never too young to learn how to take care of your own bike. Book your place for 9 Aug 10am-12.30pm on eventbrite.co.uk/e/under-18-…

Good to see some more cycle hangars being installed to allow people to store their bikes safely
Oh what is this? Cycle route road markings and signs, and more bike hangars in @Merton_Council. Cavendish Road and Devonshire Road. 👍 @GroupMerton @CyclingMerton

If walking costs you $1, we all pay $0.01. If biking costs you $1, we all pay $0.08. If bussing costs you $1, we all pay $1.50. If driving costs you $1, we all pay $9.20. Via @thediscourse study. This isn’t just about choice. It’s about who pays for your choice. #citymakingmath

Not sure why the Coombe Lane cycle lane was closed next to the contra flow. There was no construction work in the lane. Just dangerously pushed bikes into the road or encouraged cycling on the pavement @Merton_Council @CyclingMerton @MertonLibDems

Agreed, it's on our Strategic Active Travel Network, which was a key input into the @Merton_Council Walking, Cycling and Kerbside strategy currently being developed

@GroupMerton a cycle lane is desperately needed on Grand Drive between Lower Morden and Raynes Park. Wide pavements on either side could take a cycle lane without reducing the road width. It is unsafe to cycle with a child to Raynes Park. How can this be made to happen?

An important point made by former active travel minister Trudy Harrison today: In schools, when you ask how many kids cycle to school: no hands go up. When you ask how many kids would like to cycle to school: all the hands go up. 🙋‍♀️🙋🏻‍♂️ We owe it to kids to enable them.
