Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella JUST gave an interview on XBOX and said: - XBOX has been subsidizing gaming. - No one can accuse MS of not having invested (in gaming). - Challenge: We've not monetized that entertainment. - The challenge is how to innovate in hardware and games in an economically viable way. - You've got to do it in a economically sustainable way. - Prices have gone up. The scarcity of the semiconductor supply, and memory in particular, are having a massive impact. - We have to now bring it all together while staying to to what we've always done.

The only way to make software more secure is to allow AI to scan for vulnerabilities and fix it. But this is what got Fable 5 pulled. The stuff that fixes vulnerabilities also reveals them, obviously. The only solution is no guardrails. Use AI to fix it all and find it all. Otherwise you just leave hacks to state level actors and leave everyone else vulnerable.

Anthropic is said to have refused to fix the jailbreak, which forced the administration to issue the export control. Interesting.
I’ve had a number of conversations with folks inside and outside government about the current situation with Anthropic, and here is what I believe to be true: — As we know, Anthropic publicly released its Mythos class models earlier this week under the commercial name Fable. — Fable is Mythos with guardrails. But if those guardrails fail, then you’ve exposed Mythos and its advanced cyber capabilities to people who shouldn’t have them. (Keep in mind that Anthropic itself widely promoted the idea that Mythos was a cyberweapon and needed to be regulated as such. They asked for government regulation of Mythos and championed the guardrails on Fable. If there is a vulnerability — big or small — it is Anthropic’s responsibility to patch.) — A highly credible trusted partner of both Anthropic and the USG who was testing Fable came forward with a jailbreak of those guardrails. The Admin asked Dario to fix the jailbreak or de-deploy the model. Dario refused. — In their blog post, Anthropic defended its decision by saying the jailbreak isn’t serious. That is not what the trusted partner and the USG believe; nor is that kind of minimizing language consistent with Anthropic’s brand as the AI safety company. It’s difficult to fathom how they could claim a jailbreak allowing operability of a cyber weapon could be defined as not “serious.” — In the past, Anthropic has always said that safety must be top priority and taken super seriously. In this case, Anthropic prioritized the continued offering of the consumer model over safety. — In reaction, the Admin issued the export control. The Admin did this reluctantly. It’s been very surprised that Anthropic hasn’t wanted to cooperate with a reasonable safety request (ie fixing the jailbreak issue). Anthropic’s reaction is very much at odds with their branding and ethos as a safe AI research community. — The Admin’s hope now is that Anthropic remediates the safety issue, the export control is lifted, and Fable goes back into general release. The Admin wants all of this to happen as soon as possible. It is frankly bewildered that Anthropic hasn’t wanted to comply with safety requests that it previously said were its highest priority. — Those trying to misdirect and tie this action to the prior DoW/Anthropic issues are wrong. The Admin values Anthropic’s technical capabilities and feels that this issue, while serious, should be easily resolved. The ball is in Anthropic’s court.

Someone is trying to Vibe Code GTA 6 before GTA 6 ships. He maxed out his Claude Code subscription to do it. They are up to day 4. More links in replies:

A gov agency shut down Anthropic's Fable 5, fearing it is too dangerous for public use. Neuromancer, by William Gibson, predicted this. The 1984 novel spoke of AI and "Turing Police" whose gov job it was to shut down advanced AIs and bring their creators to justice. Famously, Gibson knew nothing about computers when he wrote the book that launched the Cyberpunk genre and wrote the entire novel on a 1927 Hermes Typewriter. It was before the Internet, yet he talked about the internet "The Matrix" It was before VR, yet he wrote about VR "SimStim" It was before AI but he talked about true AI and "constructs" which were more like our stochastic parrot early efforts. He predicted high RAM prices "Case's girlfriend steals his RAM for drugs" He predicted that the most advanced AI would only be available to giant corporations and rich elite. The number of things he got right makes him seem more like Nostradamus than a sci-fi author.

I published this before XBOX admitted they have a problem. I've posted for years about how the Activision/Blizzard deal was gonna be bad for MS. Year ago I let people know Game Pass was also gonna be a problem. I hate to see it, but the current situation with Xbox does not surprise me.

Anthropic just pulled Fable 5 worldwide. They got a letter from the gov an hour ago, forbidding Fable and Mythos access by any foreign national located anywhere, including inside the US. So they shut it down for everyone until they figure this out.

X is owned by spaceX. part of the valuation of spaceX is the value of shitposters on X. if we do a good job at shitposting, this value goes up. this IPO is historic because i and all my little friends on here are now creating shareholder value by shitposting

Oh are we back to not liking Asha again? Whiplash.
Xbox's strategy so far under Asha seems to have been just cheap wins and chasing their tail. I'm not sure why they feel so inclined to talk so much and do interviews, but they should probably just stay silent until they have a plan in place. If people in the industry are confused about what they are doing, I can't imagine how confusing it is for a casual gamer.

Imagine if McDonald's cancelled the Big Mac and then told you that you had to eat nothing but Filet-O-Fish for a year if you wanted it back. Same energy.

What can save XBOX? XBOX rumored to be spun out of Microsoft. New outlets are reporting rumors of internal discussions that include turning it into a wholly owned subsidiary, spinning it out or even selling the division. The rumor suggest lavish budge increases to push existing pillar tentpole IPs: - More Halo - More Fallout - More Elder Scrolls But not just more, Faster. I dunno. I think throwing more money to increase budgets is a horrible move when games are already expensive and these massive bets are failing to recoup their costs. If you want to look at what is winning in games, its AA and Indie and games from Asia. This Xbox strategy just seems like "more of the same" instead of a true vision. In fact, it's more like a retreat in some ways. And pic below was well thought out and necessary to this post, I assure you.

All the news articles are sourced from one report, a paywalled outlet called "The Information" so take it as rumor.
