Melanie Rau of MLB.com noted that the Guardians’ bullpen has shown concerning regression, pointing out a sharp decline in performance after previously ranking among the league’s best units. "During much of the time they were leading the division, Cleveland’s dominant bullpen was a huge part of what made that possible. It’s no surprise that the Guardians have stumbled as their bullpen has faltered lately. Entering Saturday, Cleveland ranked second in the Majors with a 2.78 bullpen ERA since April 18. Since Saturday, they rank 17th with a 4.96 bullpen ERA. The bullpen problems are magnified when the offense struggles, especially with runners in scoring position." (mlb.com/guardians/news/guard…)

Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report highlighted Colin Holderman as a breakout arm for the Guardians, noting his strong performance since joining the bullpen and suggesting Cleveland may have uncovered a valuable reliever. "But Colin Holderman—a 30-year-old who posted a 7.01 ERA in 24 appearances for the Pittsburgh Pirates last season—has been a revelation. Signed after he cleared waivers following being designated for assignment by the Pirates, Holderman has a 1.88 ERA and 10.5 K/9 across 20 appearances this season. He's under control for two more arbitration years before he'll become eligible to be a free agent after the 2028 season, so the Guardians really seem to have found a diamond in the rough." Bradford Doolittle of ESPN noted that the Guardians typically make only minor moves at the trade deadline, suggesting their main priority is to stay competitive and avoid slipping in the standings as they battle for playoff positioning. "As for the deadline, Cleveland rarely does anything more than tweaking around the margins, so the objective is probably to simply remain fixed in this group rather than slipping onto the subtraction tier. Despite the tepid competition within the division, it's not something that can be taken for granted given Cleveland's .500-ish run differential. It will be interesting to see if the playoff standings influence a more aggressive approach by the Guardians' this time as Cleveland and Seattle figure to battle it out for a first-round bye." Parker Messick said the Guardians are focusing on moving past recent struggles, emphasizing that the season is still long and expressing confidence that the team can return to the level of play they are capable of. “Some of the bad things that happen, you just flush it and move on,” starter Parker Messick said. “It's a long season, and we're right in the middle of it. We’ve shown the kind of team that we can be. We're playing like the team that we don't really want to be right now.” (mlb.com/guardians/news/guard…)

Guardians executive Chris Antonetti explained that the organization is using Daniel Espino's minor league bullpen role to help prepare him for the realities of relief pitching, allowing him to gain valuable experience before reaching the major leagues. “There are a lot of different things that relievers have to do over the course of the season, [such as] getting up and not getting into a game, and then coming back and still being available the next day,” Antonetti said. "Those types of things, Daniel's getting some of those reps in the Minor Leagues, as well as a lot of our other relievers. That's part of us trying to prepare guys for the Major Leagues.” (mlb.com/guardians/news/danie…)

Steven Kwan emphasized the importance of the Guardians’ veteran leadership in keeping the team's young contributors confident and focused, saying their continued development will be key to the club’s success moving forward. “I think it's just leadership at the top,” Kwan said, “where guys like José and Hedgey [Austin Hedges] are making sure that we're focused on the next game. Don't let young guys get in a rut. I think that’s a big thing, is making sure our young guys who have contributed continue to do the same thing and don't let themselves get too in their heads. I think as long as we do that, we’ll be in a good spot.” (mlb.com/guardians/news/guard…)
