The first evidence of in vivo SARS-CoV-2 escape from antibodies: emergent Spike deletion H69/V70 and D796H mutation in a convalescent plasma (CP) treated patient. These mutations conferred reduced susceptibility to the CP and sera from multiple donors. medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Wow just heard about new clinical trials of a new drug for hep B infection at the European HIV hepatitis meeting - antisense oligo nucleotides showing promising results in those already taking nucleotide/side inhibitors. And for hep D a new entry inhibitor.@hkjcghi@MedCambridge
Back to my HIV routes at the 4th European Meeting on HIV & Hepatitis in Barcelona, catching up with giants in the field of HIV drug resistance. Mpox on the menu here too and we look forward to soon sharing our data on mpox vaccine in people living with HIV. @hkjcghi
In the Auckland region, children aged 0-4 years have had the highest cumulative rates for SARS-CoV-2 positive SARI hospitalisation this year.

Very concerned about the state of final preparedness in light of New Ebola outbreak and hantavirus cruise ship incident. We are committed @hkjcghi and @MedCambridge to addressing preparedness against a range of pathogens, but funding needs to step up in a consistent way.
Great work here from our collaborators @yunlong_cao demonstrating the importance of understanding imprinting from both infection and vaccines, appreciating they may differ, and with profound consequences. Let’s hope a more pathogenic VOC doesn’t exploit differential imprinting !
Our latest preprint is out, where we investigated a profound SARS-CoV-2 epidemiological anomaly: BA.3.2.2 is selectively infecting children. Here, we show that the lack of ancestral-strain immune imprinting is promoting BA.3.2.2 pediatric infections.

Shout out to @LongDesertTrain who I believe first pointed out the age disparity in infection by BA.3.2 and is a glowing example of citizen scientists outperforming the rest of us !

How well do seasonal COVID-19 booster vaccines continue to work in older adults? We studied humoral responses in older adults following JN.1 and KP.2 COVID-19 booster vaccines 6 months apart to assess durability and breadth of vaccine-boosted antibodiesp

Very happy to have been invited to speak publicly on HIV and treatment at @RCPEdin to a local audience alongside @mugecevik with Dan Clutterbuck as chair. Gorgeous Edinburgh didn’t disappoint along with the rain! @MedCambridge@hkjcghi
