The Government of Ghana registered its deep concern and engaged in intensive diplomatic efforts in response to the denial of a Canadian visa to Black Stars player Thomas Teye Partey ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

I was honoured to participate in the 2026 Ghana–European Union Partnership Dialogue held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra. The Dialogue provided an important opportunity for Ghana and the European Union to review progress in our longstanding partnership and explore new avenues for cooperation in economic transformation, peace and security, climate action, digital innovation and human development. In his keynote address, His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama emphasized the need to deepen the Ghana–EU relationship beyond traditional development assistance towards a partnership driven by trade, investment, industrialization, innovation and shared prosperity. He highlighted key government initiatives, including the 24-Hour Economy Initiative and the Accelerated Export Development Programme, aimed at creating jobs, boosting productivity and strengthening Ghana’s economic recovery. The discussions also focused on expanding collaboration in strategic sectors such as manufacturing, agro-processing, critical minerals, renewable energy, digital transformation and climate resilience, while reaffirming our collective commitment to democratic governance, regional stability and youth empowerment. The European Union, represented by Ambassador Rune Skinnebach, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ghana’s development priorities through enhanced investment, infrastructure development and job creation. He also highlighted the significance of the Ghana–EU Security and Defence Partnership and the establishment of thematic dialogues to strengthen cooperation on peace and security, economic stability and sustainability. I was honoured to join the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Administration, Honourable Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, and other government officials to receive 342 Ghanaian nationals evacuated from South Africa following recent xenophobic attacks. Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the successful reintegration of our compatriots through a comprehensive support package, including skills development and employment opportunities under the National Apprenticeship Programme, NHIS registration, and assistance in acquiring Ghana Cards. In my remarks, I encouraged the returnees to remain hopeful and take advantage of the opportunities available in Ghana. I assured them of Government’s continued commitment to their welfare and emphasized the invaluable contribution of the Ghanaian diaspora—our “17th Region”—to national development. I also reiterated that the Government remains steadfast in protecting the interests of Ghanaians wherever they may be.

I joined my able Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and other government officials in receiving the second batch of Ghanaian nationals repatriated from South Africa following the recent xenophobic attacks. We warmly welcomed our compatriots home and reassured them of Government’s commitment to their welfare, safety, and successful reintegration. Arrangements have been made to provide medical care, psychosocial support, and employment assistance to help them rebuild their lives. I commend all institutions and partners whose coordinated efforts made this evacuation exercise successful. Ghana remains committed to protecting and supporting its citizens wherever they may be.

I joined the Ministerial Session of the Third Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC) between Ghana and Jamaica, held in Accra on 26th May 2026 and co-chaired by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ghana, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith. The session reaffirmed the longstanding historical ties between Ghana and Jamaica, founded on shared heritage, Pan-African solidarity, and strong people-to-people relations. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in trade and investment, agriculture, education, health, defence and security, tourism, arts and culture, as well as youth development. The meeting concluded with the signing of key bilateral agreements, including cooperation in defence, arts and culture, and the recruitment of Ghanaian health professionals for Jamaica, alongside the adoption of the Agreed Minutes and Joint Communiqué. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and ensuring the effective implementation of the agreements reached.

As part of my official duties accompanying H.E. John Dramani Mahama to the United Kingdom, I participated in a Town Hall Meeting with members of the Ghanaian community in London. The engagement, held on the sidelines of the Ghana–UK Investment Summit, provided an important platform for the President to interact with Ghanaians abroad and reaffirm Government’s commitment to accountability, inclusive governance, and national development. President Mahama highlighted ongoing constitutional review processes aimed at expanding diaspora participation in national governance, including proposals that would enable eligible dual citizens to serve in Parliament and hold ministerial appointments. He also underscored Ghana’s improving economic outlook and growing international recognition as a model for economic recovery and reform, while reaffirming the country’s commitment to African integration through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The meeting further emphasized the vital role of the Ghanaian diaspora in supporting Ghana’s socio-economic transformation, strengthening international partnerships, and contributing to the nation’s development agenda.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator, Mr. Zia Choudhury, commended Ghana’s longstanding contribution to peacekeeping and paid tribute to peacekeepers who lost their lives in the line of duty. The ceremony was attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps, government officials, security services and other stakeholders

As Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, I reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment under H.E. President John Dramani Mahama to advancing African unity, integration, free movement, and economic cooperation through the AU and AfCFTA frameworks. I had the privilege of chairing the Second Ordinary Meeting of the Audit Committee, which provided an opportunity to review internal processes and reaffirm our collective commitment to institutional accountability. The meeting formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen internal controls, promote transparency, improve efficiency, and uphold the principles of good governance within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Together with Hon. Mark (PM), Chairman Felix Benefoh, and Hon. Rebecca Donkor, I joined the distribution of soft loans to about 100 businesswomen within the Assin North Constituency as part of efforts aimed at empowering and supporting women in business. This initiative forms part of our commitment to improving livelihoods and promoting economic growth among women in the constituency. I wish to assure constituents that this will neither be the first nor the last intervention of its kind. Going forward, this policy initiative will be implemented every three months to complement the proposed Women’s Development Bank initiative, which is currently at the consultation stage.

I had the honour of receiving the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, JP, upon her arrival in Ghana on 23rd May, 2026. Her visit seeks to further strengthen and deepen the longstanding bilateral relations between Ghana and Jamaica, while exploring new avenues for cooperation between our two sister nations. Also present at the arrival were the High Commissioner of Jamaica to Ghana with residence in Abuja, the Honorary Consul of Jamaica to Ghana, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

I held a fruitful meeting with the Assembly Members and the Chairman of our beloved constituency to deliberate on practical ways to promote growth and development in the area. The meeting focused on addressing the needs of our communities, improving infrastructure, enhancing social services, and working together to ensure progress and better living conditions for all constituents. I remain committed to collaborating with all stakeholders to bring sustainable development and positive transformation to Assin North.
