A week ago the @VDOE_News Board of Education held a āspecial meetingā to rush through a new accountability system for THIS SCHOOL YEAR (which in most of Virginia started weeks ago). 1/3

The new system will likely brand more public schools and districts as āoff trackā or āneeds intensive supportā - some estimate that as many as 70% of schools will get these labels. This is in a state which is usually at or near the top for public education outcomes. 2/3

A week later and they still havenāt shared the formulas for determining what they mean by āmasteryā (the biggest component of the new formula) and havenāt said what will count as āadvanced coursesā for the readiness component. They are setting schools up to fail. 3/3
