I suppose politics is always like this, but today, just about any slander against anything traditional is acceptable. Even, or rather especially, the best established and polite of societies commit them. One such slander recurrent in bad history is that Winston Churchill deliberately starved several million people in India during the Second World War. The slander was recently repeated in passing by Helen Cammock, whose work is being shown at Britain’s National Portrait Gallery. The dispositive answer to the charge is given by historian and Churchill biographer Andrew Roberts, The Lord Roberts of Belgravia. Andrew has mastered the difficult task of writing history that is true and compelling. His letter is linked below. I commend it to you.

"A nation that forgets why it is free will not remain free for long." Thanks, @Mike_Pence, for your comments in @amspectator on the education American citizens need. "[I]nstitutions like Hillsdale College are leading the way, developing a K–12 curriculum that emphasizes the principles and history that have made America a beacon of hope to the world. Quietly and faithfully, many individual teachers in classrooms across the nation are doing the same." @Hillsdale's American History and Civics Curriculum is available at no cost to any K-12 teacher or parent looking to provide students with a full account of our American past, and an introduction to the competing arguments that have been at play throughout our history. spectator.org/why-young-peop…

We had quite a celebration in Hillsdale ahead of America’s 250th. It reminded me that love of country is not an abstraction. It lives in places, in people, and in the habits of a free community. We welcomed the @Freedom250 Truck, something my colleague Matt Spalding of @HillsdaleInDC helped develop. It tells the story of the principles of liberty that shaped our country and hold us together still. Days like these are more than festive. They are occasions to remember that freedom depends upon a people who know what they have inherited and are grateful enough to preserve it.

Just this past weekend, we celebrated the 174th Commencement of @Hillsdale College and the graduation of another class of young men and women ready to begin their lives’ work. It was my honor to welcome @MrsErikaKirk, who spoke beautifully about gratitude, courage, and responsibility—the virtues on which free people and free communities depend. Commencement is always hopeful. It marks the passing of great things to a new generation.

We are proud of Samiksha, a freshman here at the College, who was part of a group presenting research at @NIH. She was the only undergraduate they picked to do that. It is a reminder that the ancients rightly understood the sciences and the liberal arts as parts of the same whole.
Hillsdale College freshman Samiksha Yadav recently presented her research on hereditary breast cancers at a @NIH workshop in Bethesda, Maryland, as the only undergraduate student selected to present research among 35 researchers. The workshop, “RNA as Cancer Drivers, Biomarkers and Therapeutics,” was organized by the National Cancer Institute and brought together leading experts from academia, industry, and government to discuss cutting-edge cancer research. Before coming to Hillsdale, Yadav conducted cancer genetics research while still in high school in India and became the youngest researcher published at @JNU_official_50. Her momentum continues this year with research presentations accepted at @BrownUniversity's Student Neurosurgery & Neurology Research Conference and @Stanford's 13th Annual Neuroscience Forum — both conferences primarily geared toward medical students. Congratulations to Samiksha on this remarkable achievement!
