From January and even up until April ish Newcastle had no intention to go back in for James Trafford. The word coming back was Newcastle will sign a young goalkeeper to challenge pope next season or, if a market opportunity got presented to them they would have a look, they ideally would of wanted a older head to come in too but Traffords availability…
After watching Pope come back in for the Arsenal and Brighton games, Some at the club decided enough is enough with pope’s performances and decided they definitely needed a rebuild in that department. Pope lucky not to get sent off against Arsenal and was horrendous against Brighton. Again, club and Howe alluded to the spine of the Newcastle team and how important it was going forward.
Newcastle thought Trafford was unattainable and would want a move to London or a team in Europe. They also didn’t really want to go in again after last summers saga. His reps had been in talks with Brighton, Tottenham and Aston Villa. The talk of Newcastle had no choice because “he had to go to city” is not true and Paul Mitchell didn’t “fuck it up”. Yes Mitchell low balled Burnley but Trafford signed for City 8 weeks after Mitchell left the club. Newcastle could have signed Trafford straight after Mitchell left and they didn’t.
Trafford has told his reps to make the Newcastle move happen and will be guaranteed to play every week. He loves City but got promised to be number one so feels let down, Player side not a problem, all comes down to agreeing a fee with City. Aston Villa and Spurs 🇧🇪 have other ideas in goal & he even clapped all sections of the ground after city’s 2-0 win in the league cup semi final at SJP.
Newcastle prepared to sell pope for a few million which has a lot of clubs on alert, Newcastle not happy it’s leaked out due to obvious reasons but 3rd time lucky, hopefully 🙏
