Had a great time participating in this panel discussion with leading experts on mass timber building fire safety. Thank you to @tomcopley for hosting an important and thought-provoking event!

The @MayorofLondon has used his powers to ensure standards of fire safety in new buildings in London are higher than the rest of the country. Today I hosted City Hall’s housing delivery partners and experts to discuss how timber can be used in buildings safely and sustainably.

Dear Sir Anthony @AnthonyHopkins, My name is Guillermo Rein, professor from Imperial College London, UK. Although we have not met, I have long admired your work and the positive influence you have had on so many people around the world. I was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of your Pacific Palisades home in the recent wildfires. Your resilience and the heartfelt message you shared, β€œthe only thing we take with us is the love we give”, were moving and inspiring. I am writing to ask whether you would consider supporting an international initiative to establish the 8th of October as Fire Safety Day. This effort, developed in collaboration with the United Nations and other international organisations, aims to raise awareness and promote action on fire safety worldwide. With best regards, Guillermo,

Not a sign about battery fire safety, but some pretty questionable advice from a housekeeping column from the 1950s! #BatteryFireSigns @BatteryFires

I am proud to see our facade fire research being recognised with the best paper award by SFPE. The project was led by Matt and I at Imperial, in collaboration with Wojciech at ITB. Initiated and completed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the project tackled a key question in fire safety: why are there so many national standards for testing the flammability of building faΓ§ades? A great way to celebrate the team’s hard work.

We spent some time at Imperial’s fire lab today with different media crews talking about wildfires and our research. We showed them our wildfire demo with thin dead fuels (aka excelsior). In this video, which fuel is wet and which one is dry? Video by Dr H Mitchell.

Since everyone is in Barcellona having a great time and my FOMO is at level high, and since my online presence is very limited these days, I decided to make a comeback!! I realized I had not shared this picture, taken during IAFSS23 in Japan. With so many amazing people 😍
