We extend our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to @Senator Dick Durbin; @Jose Lopez, Executive Director, Puerto Rican Cultural Center; @Jessie Fuentes, 26thWard Alderperson;
@Lissette Castañeda, Commissioner, Chicago Department of Housing, and @Tracey Scott, CEO of Chicago Housing Authority and everyone who helped us celebrate opening this building.
At 4:45 p.m. today HHDC leadership was made aware of videos involving members of our staff who were displaying aggressive behavior toward trespassers at a property in Humboldt Park. They were sent to serve a notice and they did not follow CHA or HHDC guidelines.
We have normal procedures for handling trespasser eviction notices that respect the dignity and safety of all involved. The actions and behavior captured on the video do not represent HHDC's policies and procedures and are condemned by the HHDC organization.
HHDC has a long history of providing quality, affordable housing for the most vulnerable Chicagoans. What is seen in the videos does not represent our organizational values.
Fun fact: Chicago Heights has been home to many famous residents. Among them, the NBA’s Julian Wright and Craig Hodges, sports columnist Mike Downey, Shonda Rhimes, creator of TV hit series Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, and How to Get Away With Murder.
