I unceremoniously returned to Twitter for #IIAC9 but it’s been suggested that I neglected to tell the twittersphere I have a new job: Lecturer of Early Medieval Archaeology @CCCUarchaeology. So although I actually left @durham_history a year ago this feels like a more final exit.

A beautiful translation from the wonderful Dr Gunn! It has been many years since I looked at this poem, it’s truly beautiful and Nik’s translation is stunning – everyone should read it.

Today it was confirmed that Art History will be ‘phased out’ at the University of Kent – along with Anthropology, Journalism, Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Music. What a tremendous loss.

We're all absolutely devastated to hear about the passing of our dear friend and author, Dr. Ryan Foster. His chapter in our book was brilliant, but we will miss him by far the most for his kindness and friendship. Rest in peace, Ryan.
Farewell, my friend. You were a brilliant scholar, but that was nothing compared to your kindness and generosity. Your work on @VikingScotland and your huge contribution to Viking-Age studies are testament to your talents, but I'll miss you as a pal the most, @M_Ryan_Foster.

'But why should I care about early medieval sculpture?', you ask. 😊 For many sites across Britain, #earlymedieval sculpture is our only extant (surface) evidence for pre 12th c activity. This is particularly the case for areas which have experienced less excavation than others.
You might be experiencing some dreary winter weather at the moment, so why not pick up a copy (or use the digital version) of The Corpus of Anglo-Saxon Sculpture? Did you know that every volume is prefaced with an intro chapter, situating the material within its regional remit?
