Conversations are important, but saving lives also requires action. Our team proudly participated in today’s blood donation drive, contributing to a cause that saves lives. Blood cannot be manufactured. It depends entirely on voluntary donors willing to help others they may never meet. #WorldBloodDonorDay #OneDropOfHumanity

The budget is where the government says “we will.” Reality is where “can we?” enters the conversation. Nigeria has approved its biggest budget in history, with N68.32 trillion allocated for the year. However, projected revenue stands at N36.87 trillion, leaving a N31.45 trillion gap that will have to be financed through borrowing and other sources. Before any spending on infrastructure, education, or healthcare begins, N15.81 trillion is already committed to debt servicing, which accounts for nearly 45% of expected revenue. Meet Nathan John. A regular blood donor. 🩸 “I do it willingly… nobody pushed me.” For him, giving blood is more than a habit, it’s a commitment to saving lives. Because the truth is simple: Blood cannot be created by science. Money cannot buy it. Only people can give it. Be like Nathan. Give hope. Give life. 🩸 ONE DROP OF HUMANITY Give Blood. Save Lives.

The best time to prepare for an outbreak/problem is before an outbreak/problem. #GHS2026
At the #GHS2026 session, Funding, Philanthropy, & Global Health, speakers from @gatesfoundation, @CEPIvaccines, @WHO and @PAX_sapiens discussed what it will take to pay for health security at a time of shrinking budgets. Keeping the world safe costs about $5 per person per year, but only a third to half of that is funded, and funding is expected to drop 30% between 2024 and 2026. When an outbreak hits, money can now move within hours. This is progress; however, steady funding is needed between crises. Preparedness remains chronically underfunded, and the panel called for stronger domestic financing and long-term investment in the workforce, infrastructure and the institutions countries rely on when health emergencies occur. Innovation matters, but it cannot replace these basic foundations. "The focus should be on building the systems, processes and partnerships that allow countries to respond quickly when the unexpected happens" - Prof. Jane Halton, Chair of @CEPIvaccines Board.

Systems are not judged only in ideal conditions, but in how they respond to uncertainty under pressure. The lessons from #AnImperfectStorm go beyond health; they speak to nationhood, governance & #democracy itself. Even in moments of strain, there is hope in collective strength.

Proud that Nigeria Health Watch is the technical service organisation engaged to document & disseminate learnings from @GlobalFund’s Covid-19 response investments in Nigeria through @NACANigeria & @NTBLCP1 do you know what was invested in your state ? How have those investments continued to support the health system today?
When COVID-19 tested health systems around the world, Nigeria responded with innovation, collaboration, and determination. What investments made the difference? What lessons emerged? And how can they strengthen preparedness for future health emergencies? Through the COVID-19 Response Mechanism (C19RM), supported by the @GlobalFund and implemented by @NACANigeria, @NTBLCP1 & other partners, critical investments helped strengthen health systems & response capacity across Nigeria. Join us as we document the impact & lessons from the C19RM project. #C19RMNigeria
