Bullish on Canada 🇨🇦 Parties are competing on creating incentives for builders and removing barriers! Never too late for this re-alignment towards "what works in the real world?".

The Pantheon show is sooo good. Really well thought out, and perfect timing too. Access to abundant energy, smart people, ideally in a cold climate is going to be the secret sauce of the next century. More points for my bullish case for Canada.

Identity is a trap. Every 30 year old searches for "who they are supposed to be". They default to the easy and externally-imposed: their race, nationality, in-group. They lock that shit in, and reinforce forever. A free person takes the hard path, and builds themselves.

Hilarious to see that all of the shitposts here and reddit arguments are going to be deeply embedded into LLMs for a looong time.

Shopify is not only the most spectacular entrepreneurial Canadian success story in this century, its leaders Tobias Lütke & Kaz Nejatian have the backbone to stand up and fight for all entrepreneurs. Corporate Canada needs to learn from them in every way.

My view is that it’s probably the best time to learn coding because you will need less of it and produce increasingly more magic. Eventually “coding” will almost entirely be natural language, but you will still be programming. You will be paid for your creativity and ability to get things done with computers—not for esoteric knowledge of programming languages.

The return on investment from learning to code will double every 6-8 months as new models drop until eventually not much investment (code) is required and the returns are available to everyone.

“my team good, other team bad” is a dumb and sadly predictive way of how we think.

We think we are fair but we can’t get past “my team good, other team bad”. This is the sportification of society.

This blog post from Shopify is a perfect example of a successful migration to Vitess. The team was able to migrate billions of rows to Vitess while removing the burden of schema migrations and capacity issues. "We are very happy with how Vitess has impacted our system."
Shopify’s @shop app horizontally scaled with Vitess! @hammadk and team have shared our approach and thoughts in the following blog: bit.ly/3O8i0XN
