This big pom-pommed fella was a one-off commission piece. It was made from chunky yarn so was very warm. I worked with the customer to make sure the hat was just 'so'! It's a lovely mix of colours and textures that make it stand out!

You've been given a hand knitted item as a gift. How do you look after it? Don’t worry, I always provide care instructions. Most of HandKnics hand knits can be machine washed but the website also has the care details.

A hand knitted jumper starts with yarn! Sometimes I need to add an extra step before I can get down to the knitting. This was a jumper I made for my brother after I'd turned all the yarn into cakes.

The main colours I've been working on this week are brown and a biscuit beige. Not my usual shades! Inspiration came from a vintage store during my recent holiday to Sweden.

What makes my bonnets special?
Well, you won't get hat hair unlike other hats. They are customisable so you can get a special one made that's as unique as you are.

My bonnets are my most popular item. They come in a range of colours, styles and shapes. There are lace ones, brightly coloured ones, subtle designs or some more flamboyant!
They can also be made in smaller sizes for younger family members.

Sometimes you just need to wear stripes!
This is a perfect hoodie for a wee one. The hood is great for when the wind whips up unexpectedly on a day out.
Can be made in other colours of stripes or even as a solid colour.

I have a range of bonnets available, perfect as a head cover when the summer rain comes! They can be custom made in various colours and materials, just get in touch over on Etsy.

The first thing I was taught to knit was a baby cardigan. My Gran thought this was the best thing to teach a 7 year old.
I completely agree! This is exactly the reason why I teach this as my beginner class.

This bonnet is one of my popular designs. The main part of the bonnet has a lovely lace design which allows your hair to show through whilst still keeping you warm. This gives the bonnet a really lovely and interesting texture.

Everything starts with a swatch!
I use these to check colours and the yarn picked work with the design. Sometimes they don't and I have to start again. But when they do - I can knit away making something special.

I have a favourite type of knitting needles. As I knit a lot, I find wooden needles much kinder on my hands. I use KnitPro needles but as these are darker in colour than metal or bamboo needles, I'm often wandering around with a neck light on!
