RIP to the man who turned OKC’s severe weather season from something I was genuinely terrified of as a kid to a season that I *almost* look forward to every year.
There was a comfort in knowing that anytime the skies darkened, we could flip on the TV and Gary would always be there to calmly explain the situation so that we not only knew what to do next but also understood the why and how of what was happening. More than once, I’ve heard visitors from outside of Oklahoma ask how we could be so calm with pitch black skies bearing down and sirens blaring. Gary England’s ability to turn terrifying into fascinating is the how.
Tornado season after season, we did stay with TV 9. Thank you for keeping us advised.
