It was interesting to see a lot of comments like this on our most recent Q&A chatting about the vibe at Computex. I guess it didn't come across in our answer but we actually did speak to all sorts of component makers including those that specialised in coolers or cases. And the answers in a lot of situations were genuinely surprising. We were expecting a lot of "yeah things are abysmal" but we didn't get a lot of doom and gloom answers in return. Only a couple of companies said sales were down to a large degree. Many said there was an impact, but it was small. We're not reporting this because we just want to bury our heads in the sand. We reported it because the answers were not what we expected at all, especially around GPUs. A couple of things that some companies wanted to stress is that not all component sales are DIY buyers, and in some cases not everything a company makes is for DIY builders - even if that's what it appears like on the surface. Is this just 'cope' from those in the industry? Maybe. But if a company says they haven't seen a huge drop in sales, that's what we'll report

And just because companies say this, doesn't mean we think things are going fine and you should all be buying components. We don't think that, at all.

If @AMD doesn’t make this right before the end of the week it will be Another Marketing Disaster.

please remind everyone to update the bios of am5, it seems rma nowadays is not that easy. the user shared the amd email. amd rejected the rma of the 7950x3d due to "swelling on the back", attributing it to physical damage. gigabyte also provided an rma report about the x670e aorus master. the latest update shared on forum ptt ptt.cc/bbs/PC_Shopping/M.178… reddit (english) reddit.com/r/ryzen/comments/…

That's a crazy coincidence considering we just made a video on how the Nvidia App works and the best configuration to use. I guess that video is more useful now youtube.com/watch?v=j08cAZGM…

In a way they just realized they could no longer really offer us anything we needed. AMD and Nvidia want to sell everything they make for maximum profit (Crypto showed them what was possible), but they can’t do that when gamers have less and less reason to spend big on high-end hardware. The issue is PC graphics are kind of good enough now, I don’t mean they can’t or shouldn’t get better, I mean they don’t need to in order for the games to become more enjoyable. The most popular games on the planet all run well on 10 year old hardware, games like Roblox, League of Legends, DOTA 2, Fortnite, Counter-Strike 2, Valorant and the list just goes on. So without a lucrative path forward here, as least as lucrative as they’d like, they created artificial demand for AI.
Replying to @HardwareUnboxed
unfortunately greedy corporations no longer need us. They just ride the AI bs wave to appeal to investors

All this talk about personal computing dying and what not, I (Steve) decided to try GeForceNOW (Australia) Ultimate using Wireless NBN, Starlink and 5G. My review is this: It's really bad, f@&ing sucks. Thank you for your time.

Seeing a few excuses in the comments claiming it's fine AMD took over 1 year to bring FSR 4 to RDNA 3 because development takes time blah blah blah we don't know what we're taking about blah blah We knew for a fact that FSR4 INT8 offered a better experience than FSR 3.1 for RDNA3 in October 2025! We tested it and proved it. They could have and should have released the feature back then. So yes the amount of time it's taken is unacceptable

Was the version AMD accidentally released last year unfinished or unoptimized? Maybe. But you know what is worse than an unoptimized version of FSR 4? It's FSR 3.1, that AMD restricted older GPU owners to for a further 9-10 months

I'm seeing some people on X/Reddit trying to discredit our video/opinion on ray tracing, by deliberately or perhaps mistakenly assuming the video is saying "Ray Tracing is a scam" when that wasn't at all the claim in the video, and even the title is asking if it 'was'. It's somewhat humorous to me that AI is able to better understand the video when compared to these people, I assume they are real people anyway, that could be a mistake though.

They didn’t peak 8 years ago, but what we’ve gained since does not justify the performance we’ve lost

I was recently told that the purchase price for the Asus RTX 5070 Ti Prime is now over $1700 AUD. So those who managed to sell out at the current pricing aren't re-stocking due to the high price. Retailers have no confidence they will sell, given how dead the market is at current pricing.

Would you say it is reasonable to make the general statement that modern overclocking results in a "negligible performance increase" and is therefore not worth the time and effort? Based on the polling data below people seem to agree. In extreme examples you can boost gaming performance by 20% but that is very much dependent on silicon quality and hardware configuration, it's far from guaranteed and even then most people don't want a tuned 14900K with 20% performance to maybe match the 9800X3D in certain games, the power usage still sucks and you have to worry about stability long term.
We were having a free flowing conversation, our opinions on this subject aren't as black and white as you seem to think. There are multiple reasons for why we don't focus on overclocking and why the vast majority of PC enthusiasts don't care for it. I'm not sure why you're so hung up on the "negligible performance increase" comment. When discussing PC hardware in general for the most part the OC gains that can be had are negligible. Again this is why most people aren't interested. Back in the day when you could get 50% from a basic overclock that content performed extremely well. These days there is almost no appetite from OC content, it just feels like it brings out the most toxic people in the community.
