We are pleased to announce two notable additions to our Transactional team in the British Virgin Islands. La Toya James joined our Regulatory & Tax practice in April 2026, where she leads the Tax team in the BVI. She joins us following her role as director at a major BVI regulatory body. We recently acted as Cayman Islands counsel to the lenders on the US$575 million inaugural holding company financing for Digital Edge, a leading developer and operator of data centres across Asia-Pacific backed by Stonepeak. The financing completed on 22 May 2026. The successful execution of this financing demonstrates continued strong lender confidence in the digital infrastructure sector across the region. Can a trust be a "person"? A case born of tragedy reaches the New Zealand Supreme Court. Trusts are equitable obligations, not legal entities – or so the orthodox position holds. But when a fatal accident occurs on the site of a trust-operated business, difficult questions arise as to how liability attaches and to whom. In RH & JY Trust v WorkSafe New Zealand, the courts have split at every level, and the Supreme Court has now granted leave to appeal.
