ALT We are students at Harvard University, and we live in the Harvard College residential life system. We support the effort of proctors, tutors, and house aides to form a union because they should have a seat at the table in their roles and further job security. House aides, proctors, and tutors play a critical role in our quality of life on campus, and they deserve the best contract possible for the work they do. We appreciate the advising work, community building, and event planning they do to make sure that Harvard College residential life is a positive, rewarding experience for many, and we would like for them to have the power to negotiate over the terms, conditions, and benefits of their employment. We urge Harvard University to respect and not interfere with the election process that tutors, house aides, and proctors are completing, and to negotiate with the Harvard Union of Residential Advisors (HURA) in good faith should they win their election.

However, our positions—and therefore our housing—are insecure, our duties are poorly-defined and ever-increasing, our working conditions differ wildly between Yards/Houses, and we have no formal channels to make our voices heard.
